This review is from: Murder Sails at Midnight (Mass Market Paperback)
What's good about this book is that there are a variety of potential suspects (we know the killer's name is Butler, but aboard a ship on the high seas he obviously assumes another identity) and a variety of potential victims as well. The entire book is meant to keep you guessing as to who is going to kill whom, so you have to keep reading to get to the final scene where the killer and victim identities are disclosed. That's where what's good about this book ends. In such a short book, there's hardly time to get into each of the potential victims' life stories, and why someone might want each one dead; and even these are unfolded just a little bit at a time, scattered in and out of different parts of the book. So it was a bit distracting to say the least.

Aboard the Beatrice Cenci, an ocean liner sailing from the US to Italy, a killer waits to do in his victim. He assumes a false identity and awaits the perfect moment. But who is this killer? And who is the victim? That's the big question here.

Truth be told, this novel probably could have been trimmed down even though it's already a bit sparse for a mystery. I would recommend this one for people who don't have a lot of reading time, or who, like myself, are interested in British mystery writers. Not one of the best on my shelves.
