Editorial Reviews

Emmy Award nominee Angela Lansbury is back on the case in all 22 episodes of the critically acclaimed series, Murder, She Wrote Season Two. Rejoin Jessica Fletcher, everyone's favorite mystery writer, back in Cabot Cove, where she pens her whodunit books and keeps finding that her life is imitating her art. Teamed with some of the biggest guest stars on television, including Jerry Orbach, Adrienne Barbeau, Dick Van Patten and Carol Lawrence, Jessica continues her quest to find the truth in even the murkiest circumstances. Catch the complete second season of Murder, She Wrote, the classic mystery series that "...remains well worth revisiting two decades later" (Josef Adalian, Daily Variety).

5.0 out of 5 stars Twenty-Two More Mysteries for Jessica! September 23, 2005
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
CBS has been releasing the Murder, She Wrote DVD season boxed sets very, very slowly, so it is with much anticipation that fans will be receiving this second set. (NOTE: The gifted actor William Windom, joins the cast in Season Two as the crusty but warm-hearted Dr. Seth Hazlitt.)

The three-disc set includes all Season Two episodes, which originally aired from 1985-1986. Thus far, the studio has not announced any special features to be included in the set.

Episodes include:

Widow Weep for Me: The episode that introduced Len Cariou as the British Intelligence Agent Michael Hagerty in what would be a wonderfully recurring role.

Joshua Peabody Died Here-Possibly: Murder in Cabot Cove mixed up with the town's history.

Murder in the Afternoon: A murder plot in a soap opera become all too real.

School for Scandal: A mother and daughter involved in murder.

Sing a Song of Murder: Angela Lansbury plays a dual role, Jessica and her cousin, Emma MacGill, a London dance hall performer. It is no coincidence that the singing and dancing Ms. Lansbury's given name is Angela Brigid MacGill Lansbury.

Reflections of the Mind: Jessica comes to the aid of a friend being terrorized.

A Lady in the Lake: Jessica investigates the drowning of a swimmer amidst marital and financial intrigue at a lake resort.

Dead Heat: Jessica's niece, an aspiring racing jockey, is falsely accused of murder.

Jessica Behind Bars: Jessica visits a women's prison then is held captive when an uprising occurs because of abuse and murder at the facility.

Sticks and Stones: In Cabot Cove, Jessica investigates a land sale linked to murder.

2.0 out of 5 stars Show Series Great; DVD Quality Poor February 12, 2006
Format:DVD
I love the Murder She Write Series and greatly anticipated the show being released on DVD. I have both Season 1 and Season 2. I love watching the episodes themselves, but am very disappointed in the quality of the DVDs themselves. I understand that it is not happening with every DVD set, but a lot of the sets (including both of mine) have DVDs that skip and stop. I have to skip entire chapters of the shows just to get to the next episode. The problem is using both sides of the DVD to store the episodes on. If any research had been done on two-sided DVDs prior to putting this wonderful show on the cheaper two-sided format, then we would not be having so many DVDs sets skipping. I really wish they had gone for the better quality route and not the cheaper route.

Does anyone know a phone number or email we can write to at Universal to complain about this? The same thing happened with first season. Many episodes freeze on their frames and cannot be watched. Surely Universal has had several complaints about this. Does anyone know if they are going to do anything about it? The series itself is exceptional but we, the buying public deserve a quality DVD. This is not what we're getting!!

1.0 out of 5 stars DVDs did not work! January 27, 2006
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
What a dissappointment! I gave this to my husband for Christmas and the first side didn't play at all and the second kept freezing. I saw that several other people had the same problem. So glad I didn't buy another DVD-player; I almost did. I assumed it must be my player. I hope that this will be fixed in the next releast since we both love the series. There was no problem with the first season. Too bad!

1.0 out of 5 stars Quality really bad January 9, 2006
By C. Eck
Format:DVD
Now on my second set of Second Season. Both sets have three double-sided disks. In each set, two play only one side while the third plays neither side. The message that comes up is " stained or scratched disk" while they all look really good. Would you try any more ?

1.0 out of 5 stars Serious defects January 2, 2006
Format:DVD
I mistakenly received two versions of Season 2 and both have serious defects in the v. same places. On the first disk of each version, Episode 3 cannot be watched because of serious pixeling which turns the image into a mosaic really, and extremely garbled sound. Episode 4 lacks any form of intro and when an image finally does appear, one is well into the story. On the duplicate copy there's a message on disk 3 that it cannot not be played. I found a # for Amazon, finally, and will try to speak w/a person about their poor quality control for this series. Needless to say, I'll hold off reordering any more copies of this series.

I have Season 1, and I think the entire series is being done on the cheap frankly. The packaging itself is rather poor and, as any owner knows, they squeezed an entire season using both sides of a single disk. The disks themselves have no images imprinted them; they look like something one could buy by the dozen from any office supply store. I was quite startled when I opened it frankly.

Any other folks share my experience and disappointment?

3.0 out of 5 stars Murder She Wrote Manufacturing Defects January 10, 2006
Format:DVD
My son and daughter both purchased Murder She Wrote - The Complete First Season and The Complete Second Season. One or more discs in each set of DVDs would not play. My son and daughter each had to return and exchange the First Season twice before they received a set of discs that would play. They each had to exchange Second Season once to get a set of discs that would play. The poor quality control of Universal Studios Home Entertainment's manufacturing took a lot of pleasure out of watching the excellent program content. Program content rating: 5 stars. Manufacturing quality rating: 1 star (that's too generous). Overall rating: 3 stars. My family has had similar problems with other Universal Studios Home Entertainment products.
