Gossip columnist Dagmar Delacroix Chatsworth and her yappy lapdog Rover's recent stay at the Hillside manor left hostess Judith McMonigle Flynn's nerves, and best bed linens, in tatters. So Judith joins cousin Renie for some well-earned off-season R&R at Canada's famous Bugler Ski Resort -- only to discover with horror that the swanky getaway is the next stop on detestable Dagmar's itinerary. But it seems the cousins aren't the only guests with serious grudges against the dirt-disher and her malicious mutt. "Judith and Renie are sleuths to treasure...Daheim writes with wit, wisdom, and a big heart. I love her books."-- Carolyn Hart

About the Author

Mary Richardson Daheim is a Seattle native who started telling stories with pictures because she didn't know how to write.  After acquiring the rudiments in grade school, Daheim penned her first mystery novel at age eleven.  She admits it was terrible, but "showed promise."  Thus encouraged, she went on to graduate from the University of Washington's School of Communications, having acquired the knowledge and skills to support herself until she wrote a better book.

In 1983, Daheim published her first historical romance, Love's Pirate, for Avon Books.  She followed this award-winning novel with Destiny's Pawn, Pride's Captive and Passion's Triumph, all for Avon, as well as several historicals for Harlequin.  An avid mystery reader, Daheim decided to try her hand at murder and mayhem with the creation of the Bed-and-Breakfast series from Avon, beginning with Just Desserts, and followed by Fowl Prey, Holy Terrors, Dune to Death, Bantam of the Opera, A Fit of Tempera and Major Vices.

Daheim is married to David Daheim, an instructor of cinema, literature, and English at Shoreline Community College.  The Daheims have three daughters: Barbara, Katherine, and Magdalen.  Daheim is member of the Authors Guild, Mystery Writers of America and Romance Writers of America.

2.0 out of 5 stars The Only Disappointment, May 13, 2002
By
This review is from: Murder, My Suite (Bed-And-Breakfast Mysteries) (Mass Market Paperback)
I am a devoted fan of Judith and Renie and have read every one of the Bed and Breakfast books with the exception of Creeps Suzette (I'll get to it soon). I have to say that this is the ONLY book in the series I have not enjoyed. The plot was up to par with the usual twists, turns and colorful characters. However, I just felt that Judith and Renie weren't their usual selves. Renie was not nearly as fiesty as usual and her slobbering over Rover at one point is unbelievable if you remember in September Morn that she "hates" dogs!! As for Judith, this was the only time I found her to be insensitive, pushy, and irritating. If this had been written by anyone other than the exceptionally talented Ms. Daheim, I probably would have thought it was pretty darn good. I would be interested if any other devotees who have read the series feel the same way! Can't wait for SILVER SCREAM!!

This review is from: Murder, My Suite (Bed-And-Breakfast Mysteries) (Mass Market Paperback)
In this installment of the Bed-and-Breakfast Mystery Series, Judith Flynn's patience is tested when Dagmar Chatsworth, a gossip columnist, takes up temporary residence at Hillside Manor. Her condescending attitude is bad enough, but her dog Rover destroys some property at the B & B and her nephew Freddie is a bore and a horrible flirt. Thinking she can leave her worries behind her, Judith accompanies her cousin Renie to a ski resort. Unfortunately Dagmar and her traveling companions also show up there! When one of them is murdered, Judith takes it upon herself to find the culprit. There is some speculation as to whether Dagmar was the intended victim, but Judith doesn't believe it. She persists in her investigation and comes to some false conclusions, but eventually finds the murderer. This is another entertaining and enjoyable "cozy" from Mary Daheim.
