ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY REVIEW,
By A Customer
This review is from: Murder Of Tides (Audio CD)
The leader of Centro-matic and South San Gabriel delivers his first solo effort after navigating his bands through the release of seven records. Recorded in a barn near his home in Denton, TX - this record offers a somber, sparse, and often fragile batch of songs that are as beautiful as they are sad. Johnson's distinctive voice skillfully goes from athemic wail to broken-down troubadour at the drop of a hat. A timeless and epic record.

soft yet powerful album,

Will Johnson has crafted a soft yet powerful album that is a perfect soundtrack for a rainy night. It's mostly just him and his guitar but you get bursts of fiddle, weird sampled strings, and warbly keyboard sounds against a backdrop of powerful lyrics. Also check out the other bands he fronts; South San Gabriel and Centro-matic.

Great Album,

WIll Johnson is the singer/songwriter for the Denton, TX band centro-matic. This guy is a songwriting machine. I saw them open for Tripping Daisy in Little Rock in 1999 and they blew me away. They've released around 6 or 7 cd's in just 4 years! This cd is really beautiful. Also, do yourself a huge favor and buy centro-matic "navigational". In my opinion, it is a masterpiece.
