Book Description

October 28, 2000
Both readers and critics have been enchanted by Earl Hamner's novels Spencer's Mountain, which became a film with Henry Fonda and Maureen O'Hara, and The Homecoming, which became the pilot for Hamner's long-running and beloved television series, The Waltons. Applause similarly greeted The Last Smile, the first suspense novel from Don Sipes. Imagine then the result when these two multi-talented Hollywood insiders put their heads together and concoct the perfect murder--set under the bright lights of Tinseltown.

Emory Goode is one of the top producers in Hollywood. He's ruthless, efficient, and used to getting what he wants, when he wants it. He's got a new television pilot in the works, with a starring role an actress would die for. But when his first choice for the role, Lyla Taylor, turns up dead just before the final casting call, Goode is forced to wonder whether the motivation for the murder was personal--or Hollywood at its worst. Goode soon finds himself in a race against time, desperately trying to solve the mystery--before the killer strikes again.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Hollywood insiders Earl Hamner (The Homecoming), who wrote The Waltons, and writer/producer Don Sipes (The Last Smile) bring their unique perspective to their collaborative novel, Murder in Tinseltown. When the female lead of hotshot TV producer Emory Goode's new pilot is murdered, he devotes extracurricular time to sleuthing and learns that the killer isn't satisfied yet.

Review

"A redundancy--'Hollywood double-dealing'--combined with an oxymoron--'good-guy producer'--makes for a wickedly exciting read." -- Gail Gilchriest, screenwriter of My Dog Skip and The Ponder Heart

"An action-packed mystery that rips the mask off, exposing the real Hollywood." -- William Link, co-creator of Columbo and Murer She Wrote

This book contains all the twists of a classic murder mystery and then some. It's intriguing and suspensful right from the beginning, as you try to solve a crime amidst the allure of Hollywood.

It is a definate page-turner and a wonderful read!

This review is from: Murder in Tinseltown (Hardcover)
I am an avid mystery reader and enjoyed this new collaboration between Don Sipes and Earl Hamner Jr. I am also a Walton fan and this book is definitely not written in the same mode. The only problem I had with the book is that I wan't more!!! It was too short!
