5.0 out of 5 stars Another winner from Sue Henry!
I discovered Sue Henry only a few months ago and devoured all her books in a short period of time. I read them in almost one sitting.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good mushing, lousy mystery
While billed as "An Alaskan Mystery", this is really a book about life on the trail. Even as that, it fails to satisfy. The plot involves a kidnapping and murder on the Yukon Quest race. I believe it fails to live up to its billing as a mystery because the clues necessary to solve it aren't provided. The author basically tells you one of the culprits, you can sort of...

5.0 out of 5 stars Another winner from Sue Henry!, May 20, 2000
I discovered Sue Henry only a few months ago and devoured all her books in a short period of time. I read them in almost one sitting.

Ms. Henry's books concentrate on Alaskan history and an environment few of us can imagine, fabulous characters, and page-turning mystery and excitement. I find that I'm torn between Evelyn Wood-ing it to find out what happens and re-reading passages again and again because of the flow of the words and the descriptive phrases and language.

Jessie Arnold is taking her team on the Yukon Quest this year, instead of the familiar Iditarod. The Yukon Quest is run shortly before the Iditarod and she's decided to try the race from Canada into Fairbanks, Alaska. It's earlier in the year, the trail is rougher and the conditions harsher, but she's eagerly up to the challenge.

Racing, or involved behind-the-scenes, are several friends and acquaintances, legends and loners. It's exciting when you realize that this race, like the Iditarod, honors people who forged this area for the rest of us. A wonderful mix of history and current events, the race gets going and a novice racer is kidnapped and Jessie is singled out by the kidnappers to be the go-between.

Plus, Jessie's got her own personal problems to sort out. Gee, as if running the race for the first time weren't enough to deal with!

I love this book and was truly sorry to get to the end of it. July 5th can't come fast enough for me - that's when Ms. Henry's next book comes out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Leaves You Wanting More, June 2, 2000
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Ms. Henry is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. Beginning with Murder On The Iditarod Trail, her tales of life and death in Alaska have never failed to impress me. In this story, Jessie Arnold is once again testing herself and her dogs on a long and difficult race, the Yukon Quest. The courage and stamina needed for such an endeavor is brought vividly to life by Sue Henry. The mystery, although a good one, is almost secondary to the wonderful descriptions of the snow covered wilds of Alaska. It leaves you wanting more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sue Henry's Best Yet!, July 30, 2000
I started with Deadfall, great! Went to Murder on the Iditarod Trail, fine! Murder on the Yukon Quest, terrific, beautifully written, fun, suspenseful, best, mystery, great, and wonderful!

This one I got much out of, I felt I was in the book right next to the characters, but invisible. Jessie Arnold is a very caring and nice musher, she befriends everyone and helps them with their troubles, the book went right to action and details imediately.

I started this series because of the sled dog on the cover because I'm a fan of malamutes. More details on the dogs, or perhaps the ownership of a malamute would make this book the truthfully best book I've ever read! This book could get much more stars would it be possible. Other than that there is absolutely no way to improve this book, in my case, it is almost what you could call perfect, and is in my top shelf along with the Harry Potter books!

5.0 out of 5 stars Topnotch thriller, May 10, 2002

(REAL NAME)
Sue Henry is back to her best form in this sixth book of the Alaska Mystery Series. Jessie Arnold decides to forego the Iditerod in order to compete in the less famous but more rugged Yukon Quest. Partway through the race, one of the mushers is kidnapped and Jessie is asked to deliver ransom to the kidnappers while she is in the middle of the race. As always, Henry's descriptions make the reader feel the freezing temperatures and stark beauty of the Yukon and the Alaskan wilderness. She also describes well the feelings of the characters who are put in dangerous situations. Henry deals with Jessie's ambivalent feelings about her relationship with Alex Jensen in this book. This is the best in the series since the first novel, Murder on the Iditerod Trail.

Excellent book. Has suspense and also tells you about the mushing parts many people dont understand unless they race sled dogs. I really enjoyed this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Murder on the Yukon Quest, December 17, 2000

Great picture about the north and racing with dogs. I could read it over and over again. The story and the charakters are just as vivid as in the previous books of Sue Henry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another winner by Sue Henry, March 13, 2000
Another fantastic book by Sue Henry. Would love to join her fan club. While this one was nice to see her back with Jessie racing, I am still not sure I liked the final ending. It was again another book where I learned about cold weather surviving and just what some people would do for money. I do have to admit my new hero is Tank. I think everyone should have a human companion as faithful as the trusty Tank. You get to see Jessie interact with new characters and stand on her own feet in this one without Alex playing a large role in her racing etc... Another 5 star book

4.0 out of 5 stars Ride along with the the heroine on the Yukon Quest trail, August 4, 1999
By A Customer
The book takes you from the very beginning of the sled trip, starting with the planning, packing of equipment, checking, training and care of the sled dogs, to the actual ride itself from the Yukon to Alaska.

Great book for those who want to take the ride without actually going up north. The descriptions are detailed and you admire the gumption and determination of the heroine musher, Jessie, who continues on the trail even while being watched by murderers and kidnappers.

However, she falls flat in the romance area, and seems to demand as much from her lover as she does from her dogs- total devotion. We can't sympathize much with her when she is unable to sympathize with her lover, Alex, who has had to leave for Idaho after his father's sudden illness and death.

The heroine clearly loves Alaska, and so will you seeing it through her eyes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mystery with lessons of geography, history and physiology, July 11, 2000
By A Customer
This book is a mystery but is much more about the amazing people and place involved in one of the hardest spoting events the Yukon Quest. THe mystery is suspenseful but the race is captivating. Having just recently relocated to south-central Alaska, I not only find Sue Henry's mysteries a good read but a fun way to gather information.
