Book Description

1973 Midnight novel of suspense
Murder In Focus is the fourth in Dorothy Dunnett's series of suspense novels about Johnson Johnson, distinguished portrait painter and member of British Intelligence. It is as exciting and witty as its predecessors and its snapshot of Rome and the International jet set provides an extra, dizzy dimension.

2.0 out of 5 stars Dorothy, is that you?, September 11, 2009

This review is from: Murder in focus (Midnight novel of suspense) (Hardcover)
I have loved the other Dolly books for years and years. It was a huge discovery for me to locate this one, but it's...not the same. Maybe a contractual obligation rather than inspiration? Ms. Dunnett was a master of her art, but this is just thin and forced, in my opinion. None of the rich texture, sophistication or speed of the others. I don't know what was going on when this was written--maybe illness? And now that Dorothy is gone, gone, there will be no more, and we will miss her forever. Hug the other Dolly books to yourself and hang onto them. If you find this one at a very low price, get it to know that you have every single scrap of Johnson Johnson extant, but don't expect the same standard as "Dolly and the Starry Bird" or "Dolly and the Bird of Paradise."
