Book Description

February 1, 2005
On December 6th, 1991, fresh-faced teens Jennifer Harbison and Eliza Thomas began to close up the Austin, Texas yogurt shop where they worked. They were joined by Jennifer's younger sister, Sarah, and her friend Amy Ayers. Less than an hour later all four girls were dead - apparent victims of a fire. But closer examination revealed that they had been bound and gagged, sexually assaulted, and shot execution-style. It was the most horrific crime the peaceful college town had seen since the infamous University of Texas Tower shootings in 1966. With no physical evidence or eyewitnesses and more than a hundred bizarre confessions to weed through, the Austin police faced one of their toughest cases ever. The family and friends who chanted "We will not forget," would have to wait nearly eight years before Robert Springsteen IV, Michael Scott, Maurice Pierce, and Forrest Welborn - teenagers themselves at the time of the murders - were taken into custody. Intense questioning revealed how their plan to rob the yogurt shop exploded into a drug - and sex-fuelled spree of rage and brutality. But their story wasn't over yet. In February 2003, several months after the final verdict had been read, a final shocking twist would rock the city of Austin once more...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good objective look at the crime, March 7, 2005
This review is from: Murdered Innocents (Paperback)
This is an excellent paperback on the horrible 1991 crime in Austin Texas. My only criticism would be with the publisher. The book is not available in hardback so the photos are grainy, black and white as well as limited to about 16 pages. Also, the final part of the book which covers the trial could have had much more text. I was particularly disappointed that certain aspects of the case, such as the Chandra Morgan testimony, were left dangling. However that is part of this tragedy: lots of loose ends to an emotional story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Learn the Truth Right Here!!!, May 24, 2006
This review is from: Murdered Innocents (Paperback)
I also read this book when it came out last year. After hearing about Springsteen's release today I decided to come back here and purchase a few more copies for some of my friends. This book is easily one of the best true crime books I have ever read and I read 10-20 a year. I lived thru this nightmare of a case and then 8 long years of never finding the killer. When they finally did I was so relieved yet skeptcal based on the actions of the police. Eventually I came to believe these were the guys and so today's news came as quite a shock.

This book did a great job telling all sides of the story. This case was never a clear cut simple decision and I believe "Murdered Innocents" paints the difficulty of trying cold cases in the fairest light possible.

It is so well written and still makes me cry when I read it. I cannot wait to give this to some of my friends were are stunned by today's news. I eagerly recommend this book to all true crime fans and anyone out there who loves a well-written, crisp, fascinating mystery.

5.0 out of 5 stars Such a sad and horrific story..., August 8, 2006
This review is from: Murdered Innocents (Paperback)
This was the most disturbing book I've read in a long time. I'll never understand how humans can treat each other this way. Corey Mitchell does an excellent job of really pulling you into the story. I felt emotionally involved in the lost of these girls and totally sympathized with the family and all those involved. The story was so good that I have since logged on to various sites on the internet to learn more about it. If you are a true crime buff, this is the story for you.

You won't be able to put it down and you'll demand justice for these young girls and their families.
