Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
If you are looking for a very short review, just read this: If a game L.A. Noire - Xbox 360 and a movie Ghost had a love child, it would be Murdered: Soul Suspect. The premise has also been compared to the 2010 adventure game Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective, but the producer claims he had no knowledge of such a game before making this one.

For a slightly longer review, read on...

If you're into mystery novels and like to play the role of the protagonist, this game is certainly worth the look. You play a ghost of a former detective in Salem, Massachusetts, who not only is trying to figure out who killed him and why, but trying to help other ghosts as well and solve a much bigger picture of the evens that surround his murder.

This is not a first-person shooter, so leave your weapons at the door. Instead, you must look for clues around several sites. If you get stuck, refer to your digital map(included with game) to help you find them.

Along the way, you will stumble upon side quests, like helping other ghosts who cannot rest in peace until they know how and why they got killed. Uncovering new abilities as you travel is a treat: Who knew that possessing and playing as a parkour cat can be this fun?

Even though you are a ghost, you can still "die" if you are absorbed by a demon. Encountering a demon can actually be frightening, especially if you do not scan ahead. If a demon spots you, you must jump from one body to another before a demon gives up and it is safe to go out again.

So why the 4-stars, you ask? For once, this game is very easy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent game overall! Must play! June 4, 2014
Platform for Display:Xbox 360
The only problem I had with this game was the lag/choppiness in the xbox 360 version.
The story was excellent, the characters were well written. The gameplay is a more interactive version of LA Noire, which is my favorite game of all time. In Murdered, you feel more responsible for solving the crimes, the answers aren't just handed to you. It's a good trade off for not having an interrogation mode.
If you like mystery movies/games, you HAVE to play this. Whether you buy it or rent it. You won't regret it.

I got this game for my brother as a birthday present, and we played it thru together, taking turns at the controls. While the game is ambitious and very different from your usual story we both expressed disappointment in several areas. For instance, some of the clues and mystery points in the game seem almost geard towards children, both in the fact they are so simple and the interaction very point and click. The graphics, voice acting and music were all great quality, but something about the game would constantly be jerky and laggy when walking or running around. We had guessed the ending after about an hour of playing, (altho there was a good twist we didnt see) and after about 5 evenings of playing it we beat the game. Overall i would say it would be a fun and unique rental, but has zero replay factor.

5.0 out of 5 stars The story was fun and a little twisty. October 2, 2014
Platform for Display:Xbox 360
Say what you like about Murdered: Soul Suspect - at least it dares to be a different kind of game. It’s one of those rare detective games that actually focuses on detection, rather than dragging you from clue to clue and jamming in a nice shoot-out every now and then, and it even vaguely taxes your powers of observation and your ability to comprehend the facts.

Let’s not go crazy - we’re not talking about video gaming’s answer to Sherlock Holmes or Inspector Morse - but Murdered attempts to make it as some kind of cerebral adventure. Nor is the premise that straightforward.

Murdered takes the ‘who’s killed me and why?’ set-up of the B-movie classic DOA one step further, by making its hero, Ronan O’Connor, a ghost out to track down his killer, with the killer in question of the serial variety. Thrown out of a window and then shot for good measure, Ronan’s left in a kind of ghostly limbo, able to wander through walls and furniture or temporarily possess the living, read their minds and sometimes influence (though not control) their behaviour.

This all takes place in a creepy version of the New England town of Salem, and there’s more than a hint of witchcraft and brimstone in the air.

Being a spirit has its upsides and its downsides. You can’t manipulate most objects or open doors or windows for yourself, but then that’s not much of an issue when you walk through walls. However, while you’re theoretically free to wander where you will, in practice the game keeps you confined to specific areas.

4.0 out of 5 stars Proof That Video Games Can Be An Interactve Movie January 11, 2015
Platform for Display:Xbox 360
I can't say too much about the game, since it would kill the story. Unlike so many games today, this is truly an interactive movie. Although the rare fight seems tacked on and unneeded, the game play is very fluid. About the only things that I can say about the story is that all the clues you need are there. They may not be obvious at first, but they are there. The only other thing that I can safely say is that your character is a police detective that was killed in the line of duty. Before your soul can find peace, you must solve the case you were working on when you were killed.

I would have given the game an extra halh star if I could. The only two things keeping me from giving it a five is the tacked on fights (just a handful of them), and the fact that you can't go back and do clean up after the story. On set of collectibles can't be returned to once you reach the last "act," so be careful if you want the achievement awards.

To be fair, I played it on the One, so there might be some difference in game play than other systems. The whole game can be played on a lazy day off, say around 10 hours or so. It all depends on how fast you spot the clues, and if you do the side missions, such as helping someone find peace, or locating the 61 collectibles.
