First, I should mention, if you're seeking an action-packed game, you should probably look elsewhere. 95% of the gameplay is as follows: you walk around, you find clues, you pick up collectibles, you piece together the clues to solve the investigation, and that's essentially the entire game. The other 5% of gameplay is stealth based, you occasionally have to work your way around demons by either getting by them without them seeing you or picking them off one by one via stealth by getting behind them and performing a takedown. The game itself is probably most similar to LA Noire mixed with Beyond: Two Souls or Heavy Rain in this regard.

The gameplay is extremely simplistic, the puzzles/investigations aren't that difficult to figure out and there's no way you can fail them since you get unlimited chances to pick the correct answer that you need. There's no alternate paths like LA Noire if you pick the wrong answer, there's only one right answer and if you don't know it, just pick each possible choice and eventually you will get it with no consequences for failing. The only way you can fail in the game is if a demon gets you and those sections are also extremely easy, so there's almost no difficulty factor in this game whatsoever, come to think of it, there's not even a difficulty setting, hence why this game is not for everyone since there's virtually no challenge involved like most other video games. This is game is meant to be an experience like Beyond: Two Souls and Heavy Rain, not a challenge or a test of skill.

The game is open world, but it's similar to how the Batman Arkham games are where each chapter of the game takes place in a different building, all linked together by an open world.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great Game but Incredibly Short! June 4, 2014
Platform for Display:Playstation 4
This game has awesome simplistic game play that anyone, of any age could handle. The only "mature" thing about this game is the language and theme. The game play is good, although there is a share of bugs (white screen, freezing, getting stuck inside someone to name a few...) and it also is consistent the whole game.

The "puzzles" are easy. There is no difficulty setting and the AI are incredibly stupid. You can literally just switch back inforth between two "dwelling spirits" until they go away and the game is short, I cleared the game with all side mission (not collectibles) in under 8 hours... there are no alternative endings.

The games has a great story, with a cinematic feel like Heavy Rain and Beyond two souls but it doesn't have the polish and creativity of them...

I feel awful because my parents are in a tight spot financially and dished out $60 for a game (birthday present) that didn't even last me half a day...

Pros:
-Great Story
-Good Voice Acting
-Simplistic

Cons:
-Extremely Short Game (8- Hours)
-No difficulty setting
-No replay-ability
-No polish - lots of bugs
-Stupid AI bots

Conclusion:
Play it for the story but wait for a price drop. I wouldn't say this game is worth a penny over $30

4.0 out of 5 stars I Ain't 'Fraid of No Ghost June 4, 2014
Platform for Display:Playstation 4
Many games I enjoy are, unfortunately, forgotten by the annals of time. Games that I feel are unique and invigorating, a solid break from the usual hokum this industry offers and a concentrated effort of original ideas are, unfortunately, mauled critically for their unwillingness to conform to industry norms and current trends. It happened to personal favorites "Wet," "Enslaved: Odyssey to the West," and last year's excellent "Remember Me." These were experiences that, while definitely not the most polished in the world, were nevertheless worthy of commendation and praise based on the very purpose of their existence. By my standards, a game should not be reviewed based on how pretty it is, or how much it's like whatever's big on the market at that moment in time. It should be judged on how fun it is, and what it brings to the table in terms of what content it's trying to put forth, whether that be tactical gameplay, mindless chaos, or narrative depth.

And from where I stand, "Murdered Soul Suspect" was squarely focused on that last one, perhaps even at the expense of other gameplay elements. But the thing is? Those other elements actually work, and in fact, don't really hinder the game at all. Everything else in the piece simply exists to further the plot, and never really bothers to hamper the player with padding or artificial difficulty. What we're left with, then, is a game that has a fantastic story leagues above anything out there, aided by simple yet engaging gameplay which serves its purposes admirably and without fault, complemented by an interesting art direction and elegant score.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Original Take on the Adventure Genre June 4, 2014
Platform for Display:Playstation 4
Murdered: Soul Suspect is a game with absolutely no hype behind it, and that's pretty sad, in my opinion, because this is a very enjoyable and fresh take on a genre that hasn't strived in quite a while. While adventure games have been making a bit of a resurgence in the downloadable space, retail games are mostly more action oriented, and since this isn't one of those games, it was forgotten by most people before it even released. This, this makes me upset. Is Murdered: Soul Suspect a game for everyone? Certainly not. Is Murdered: Soul Suspect a bad game because of this? Most definitely not. Despite some mixed reviews, I can say without shame that I love this game. Hey, that rhymed, lol. :P

All of that said, what is Murdered: Soul Suspect? Basically, you're a dude, a dude that is murdered by a hooded person, and your soul/ghost is trying to find out who it was and what was the motivation. The gameplay is more akin to the likes of Heavy Rain, where you're searching the environment to piece together all evidence and clues to find out the reasoning behind your murder. While doing so, you will also come in contact with other souls that haven't crossed over, allowing you to talk to them, gain knowledge from them, help them find out the reasoning behind their deaths, etc. In addition, you also have the ability to take over human non-playable characters in the world, allowing you to hear their thoughts, see what they're reading, etc. You can also take over a cat! A CAT! Okay, enough about cats. :) In addition to the main story missions, there are some side missions scattered throughout the story missions and some side activities in the hub world of Salem (many collectibles to be had that help flesh out the narrative even more).
