Murphy is Irish and poor. His tale is set sometime between the two World Wars, somewhere in Ireland, and other places besides - at one point, he is even kidnapped by Irish aliens who take him to see St Patrick to have his lottery numbers chosen. Rude, irreverent and funny, this is typical Milligan.

Spike Milligan was awarded the CBE in 1992 for his work as an entertainer, broadcaster and writer.
