Didn't do it for me,
By
This review is from: Murphy's Law (The Law Duology, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
Perennial student Ashley is working several jobs while finishing her education and doesn't have time for the romantic attention that hunky millionaire Quinton Murphy wants to bestow on her. Soon lust takes over and they are embroiled in a heated affair, but a stalker from her past is on the lam and lurking about and angry with Ashley who was instrumental in identifying him (see "Jude's Law"). She doesn't take those threats seriously, much to Quinton's annoyance, as he works overtime to create a relationship with the prickly heroine.Laced with so much clunky dialogue that no 29 year old in the 21st century would utter, an obvious predictability to Ashley's parentage, and a laughable bad guy, the story just falls short on all fronts. Quinton is too good to be true, while Ashley is a shrew most of the time. I made the mistake of reading the "Law" books out of order, and figure if this is the level of writing I can expect, Jude can go right to the charity pile along with Murphy. Had it not been for a long transatlantic flight with no other reading material, it probably would've gone unread. What happened to the Lori Foster who penned the brilliantly sexy and witty "Unexpected?"

Witty, Laugh-Out-Loud GOOD Reading!,

This review is from: Murphy's Law (The Law Duology, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
Ms. Foster brings us the sequel to Jude's Law. Teaming with witty dialogue, excellent characters and a little bit of suspense, this one literally had me up till the crack of dawn. It was that hard to put down. I laughed, I cried, then both at the same time.Ashley Miles has goals in life and no one better mess with them. The only problem is someone is trying to mess with them, but good. We met Ashley in Foster's previous title, "Jude's Law", as the sassy best friend of May. On her night cleaning job, she meets Quinton Murphy, savvy business mogul and all around heartthrob extraordinaire. Sure, she's attracted to him, but if he thinks he's getting inside her carefully erected shields, well, he's got another thing coming. She had a hard enough life with deadbeat parents and she's not about to end up like them. But how can she resist his persistent pursuit? He's wearing her down slow and steady, in tantalizingly sexy ways. Amongst the steam and starry eyes though, a killer has his eye on Ashley. The tragic cloud hanging over from Jude's past has set new sights on her and the killer is determined to make her pay for her interference. With her life literally on the line, Ashley and Quinton will go through trials no couple should ever see. Will their relationship survive the onslaught? A long anticipated sequel, "Murphy's Law" panned out to be all it promised and much more. Ashley was a favorite character of mine from the previous installment and Quinton was a definite eye-catcher. Their dialogue throughout is fast paced, snappy and downright hilarious. Ashley alone could fill pages and pages of dialogue by herself--she is that vivid. Quinton is a man that knows how to plan a seduction and any woman would love to be his prey. Smart, genuinely caring and hot, hot, hot, he's the perfect man. Like Ashley, he's not without his little secrets, but once they were revealed, I only loved him more. Characters from the first book make an appearance. Jude and May's relationship is solidified. Denny (Jude's fighting trainer) is back and still training the seemingly deadbeat Tim into a human fit for living. It's an all around, wonderful read, not one to be missed. Absolutely brilliant, Ms. Foster! It's a keeper for me, one I'm certain to revisit again. K. Montgomery Official Reviewer for The Mystic Castle

Life According to Murphy's Law!,
By
This review is from: Murphy's Law (The Law Duology, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
Quinton Murphy knows what he likes and what he likes is Ashley Miles, May's best friend. But Ashley is willful, stubborn and has a plan for her life. She works hard and he knows he doesn't factor into her future. Good thing he's as stubborn as she is because he wants her in his life and he is going to make her realize that she can have her future and he can be a part of it. But he's not counting on how protective she is going to be of her heart. He knows she is hiding something from him and he will do what he must to find out what it is...he doesn't scare easily and Ashley is worth it.Ms. Foster has done it again! This is a wonderfully sexy read that long time fans and new fans alike will love. We met Quinton and Ashley in "Jude's Law" and I was thrilled to find out she was going to give these two special characters their own story. The pages sizzle with their sexy chemistry and when combined with the fast-paced storyline, readers will be well entertained. I truly believe Ms. Foster is incapable of penning a dull story!

Not exactly what I expected,

This review is from: Murphy's Law (The Law Duology, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
After reading Jude's Law, I couldn't wait to get my hands on this one. It starts out where Jude's Law leaves off and begins with the incredible chemistry between Ashley and Quinton. For those who read JL first will know exactly what I'm talking about when I say that the sparks that fly off Ash and Quinton is----WOW! While it seems that the romance will be as hot as that of Jude's Law, unfortunately, it fizzles into a series of "huh" questions. I think sometimes Ashley is a little too brazen, even for her, and it gets to be a bit boring. Moreover, there doesn't seem to be as many page-turning chapters, and I found that I wasn't enjoying the storyline as much. While overall it's a good read, I was expecting a lot more in terms of the book having a page-turning, can't put this book down, what will happen next plot. Just an idea--take this one on long trip where you'll need something to entertain you for a long time. (Hope this helps)

You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet!,
This review is from: Murphy's Law (The Law Duology, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
In Jude's Law, Lori Foster gave you a tempting peek at Quinton Murphy. And if you're anything like me that fleeting glimpse made you want more of the hot, sexy millionaire. I mean, seriously, is there anything hotter than a hunky, tenacious man on a mission? Quinton's newest undertaking: Ashley Miles.Ashley has absolutely no time in her life for men, but that doesn't stop Quinton. In fact, her impeccable work ethic, and self-sufficient attitude only turn Quinton on more. He loves that she's determined to make her own way, that she's anxious to gain a better life for herself through hard work and long hours, and he adores the fact that he can make her body burn with just a kiss. Unfortunately, Ashley's hectic schedule leaves Quinton scrambling for every small scrap of time that he can get. Luckily for Quinton, he's an inventive sort of guy, and soon Ashley finds herself getting in way too deep with the handsome lug. Lust turns to love and Ashley absolutely has no time for love. Pfft, as if! With two jobs and school to boot, she barely has time to sleep and eat. And it doesn't help that Quinton turns out to be a genuinely nice guy. Underneath the expensive suits and beyond the muscled physique lay a heart of gold. Oh man, Ashley is such a goner. However, not everyone is quite so captivated by Ashley Miles. In fact, someone wants Ashley to hurt. Someone wants to see that Ashley Miles gets exactly what she deserves for her meddlesome ways. And he'll stop at nothing, including hurting the very people Ashley has always tried so hard to protect. Soon, Ashley realizes that maybe it's not such a bad thing to lean on someone other than herself, especially if it'll keep the people she loves most out of harm's way. **Murphy's Law is an entertaining story, filled with sexual tension and emotional scenes that will have you restless and laughing--sometimes even at the same time. Quinton and Ashley are a a matched pair!

LORI FOSTER DELIVERS AGAIN!!,

This review is from: Murphy's Law (The Law Duology, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
I couldn't wait for this sequel to Jude's Law to be released, and I must say I'm NOT disappointed! Lori Foster always creates wonderful stories and characters that leap off the page. Quinton and Ashley are no exception.Ashley Miles has had a tough life, but she's strong, independent, and determined to accomplish her goals. A gorgeous, rich, sexy, man just doesn't fit into her plans right now. Quinton Murphy doesn't agree. He can't help his attraction for Ashley, and is determined to show her just how good they can be together. He admires her goals, but sets out on a relentless mission to seduce. It isn't long before neither can deny the heat between them. The banter between these two is hilarious, and had me laughing out loud! This story has all the elements I love: romance, wonderful characters, delightful dialogue, some suspenseful moments, and HOT, STEAMY love scenes! This one definitely goes on my keeper shelf with Foster's other books!

Another sizzling romance!,

This review is from: Murphy's Law (The Law Duology, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
Ashley and Quinton are both, driven, determined and passionate. Each one of them is used to get their way, always. Ashley`s smart mouth and sexy looks have Quinton tied up in knots! The attraction is there and even though they are both from completely different backgrounds, Quinton is determined to see where their attraction leads. That is why, when Ashley's life is in danger Quinton step up to the task of "protecting" her. She has conflicting emotions about being taken care of. She is an independent working woman, used to do what needs to be done without counting on anyone, the only problem is, she is really enjoying all the caring and pampering. Quinton simply wants her safe. He cant bear the thought of anyone hurting Ashley and with the possessiveness he feels towards her, he is not about to let some threats get in his way. But something neither of them counted in the picture shows unexpectedly, and love have a way of always shining above all else. This is a hot & sexy, fun read, great storyline, and as always Lori's trademark of fresh, strong sexy characters shows in this outstanding, amazing romance! I must reaffirm once again, that like with all her books, you will not be disappointed with this one. It can be read as a stand alone, but you can get a better taste of the characters if you read Jude's Law first. Besides is another great book you will want to keep!

"Murphy's Law" is another Foster classic!,
By Stacy ~ "book lover" (Chicago 'burbs) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Murphy's Law (The Law Duology, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
"Murphy's Law" follows Lori's previous release "Jude's Law", and readers will be thrilled to re-visit favorite characters from that book in her latest release. Quinton Murphy has been intrigued by fiercely independent Ashley Miles from the very beginning, but she won't give him the time of day. It isn't until they share a fireworks kind of a kiss that he realizes the attraction goes both ways, but the frustrating Miss Miles still refuses to act on those feelings with him. In fact if Quinton wasn't so self-confident, Ashley would deflate his ego like a balloon. He's never known a woman who is not impressed by what he has, and having to work so hard just to go out on a date with this maddening woman frustrates him, but it also gets his attention in a big way.Ashley has not had an easy life, but you won't find her crying about what she doesn't have. No, this woman has goals, and she's not afraid of a little hard work, or lack of sleep, in order to make them happen. After all, God granted her with plenty of energy and determination, and blessed her with May, the best friend Ashley could ever have imagined. Now her attraction to Murphy, as well as a persistent danger, threaten to wreck all of her carefully laid plans. But sometimes fate has other ideas, and sometimes those new plans are exactly what you need.... I have to say that I think Ashley is one of my favorite Foster heroines, right up there with Cyn. What I love most about her is that she's unapologetic about who she is. Determined to make it on her own, Ashley really gets her dander up when Quinton tries to coddle her, but is intelligent to know when she needs to assistance. She has pride and stubbornness, but not stupidity, thank God: many a heroine have been ruined by the "too stupid too live" complex, yet fortunately Ashley is not one of them. She knows it's not a sign of weakness to ask for help when there are no other realistic options, and she's mature enough to do just that. And she doesn't soften up with just a few flattering words from Quinton either. If he wants to be with her, he has to take her as she is, and if he has a problem with that, well, tough. Then he's going to have to deal with it, not her. Quinton is the perfect complement to our prickly heroine: strong, self-assured, with an old-fashioned work ethic and an abiding love for children that endears him to his lady. Murphy may have grown up with all the privileges Ashley was forced to do without, but he does not believe he is entitled to a free ride. Instead he gives back, again and again, and there is no greater joy than in helping others reach their full potential. The lovely and fascinating Ashley does not fall right into his arms, which intrigues him, but it's her own work ethic and generous heart that has him falling head over heels in love. Life will never be boring with his little endearing tyrant -and Murphy just has to convince Ashley of this, which he will do with pleasure. The exchanges between the two are amusing and invigorating, and Ms. Foster has a way of writing hot love scenes that are lush, romantic, and sexy in the way they enfold, yet not too explicit or overpowering for the story. Physical intimacy between two consenting and mature adults is something to be embraced, not something to be embarrassed about and certainly not anything to be ashamed of, and in a Foster story that is exactly what you can expect: earthy, passionate scenes that show how being responsible and considerate of your partner can be very sexy and fulfilling. Turn up those fans, readers!

Steamy Fun Read,

This review is from: Murphy's Law (The Law Duology, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
Ashley Miles and Quinton Murphy, who are secondary characters in Jude's Law, had a story begging to be told and finally the wait is over.Ashley attends school and works two jobs to attain her long range plan and has no time for involvements. Quinton is the CEO of a consulting firm, who after literally running into Ashley wants to get to know her better, especially since there was so much heat between them on that first meeting. He cannot believe that she will not make time for him! Mix in a lunatic killer out for revenge, secrets that have yet to come to light and the hot sizzling action between Ashley and Quinton whenever they are around each other and you have a dynamite story. Quinton is a typical alpha male who is strong willed with a need to protect, but is forever tied in knots by Ashley's bluster, honesty, determination and no nonsense ways. This story has it all, you will be laughing out loud in places, reaching for ice to put out the fire and your heart will be pounding with the suspense. Lori has crafted a true love story, with lots of sparks and action....where best laid plans have a way of changing. Right from the first page you are drawn into the book and stay involved till the last page, but then that would be......Murphy's Law.........

This review is from: Murphy's Law (The Law Duology, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
Outstanding read. It's so refreshing to read about a woman that knows her own mind and can stand up for herself. Ashley was a sassy woman that didn't change her mouth or her attitude for no reason. She stood by her principles and wasn't afraid of hard work. This book is a standout among many.a definite thumbs up for Lori Foster. |
