3.0 out of 5 stars Another St. Louis Pop Icon, February 21, 2004
By
This review is from: Murphy's Law (Audio CD)
For some reason, when Murphy Lee is mentioned, first thing people relate to him is Chingy instead of his St. Lunatics crew. I found the reasons when I gave this album a listen. Murphy Lee's lyrics and his delivery is completely different from Chingy's. However, they rap about the same stuff. Murphy Lee at least sound like he can rap unlike Chingy. How girls like him is getting old, and hes metaphors are like 5th graders. "I've been in LA and Washington like Tyrone Nesby." Common, Tyrone Nesby was a good basketball player if HE WAS STILL PLAYING. Many other pointless metaphors and punch lines on this album. However, the singles are worth a listen even though they are commercial. This album is really good for parties, the production is GREAT. Jazze Pha's beat was good. Now that 2 of the most promoted St. Lunatics has gone solo, and neither one showed the street side that they claimed but that's okay, they do bring a lot of positiveness into the game. But if you are looking for some kind of Ghetto, Hood, Gangsta rap, this is not the album for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Murph tears it up!, September 26, 2003

I gotta say I was expecting a tight product from Murphy Lee since hearing him on "Boughetto" with Ali and the Rock the Mic (remix) with Nelly. But after listening to this CD i gotta say my expectations were surpassed! The 1st single "Wat Da Hook Gonna Be" is just crazy! Jermaine Dupri lays 1 of the best beats i've heard in awhile on this song. "This Goes Out" is another of the best, a bangin track featuring Roscoe, Cardin, Lil John and Lil Wayne. "Murphy Lee" another JD track has a great flow to it and is a song for the ladies, single material i think. "Luv Me Baby" produced by Jazze Pha has a great beat to it as well, kind of a rap/rock mix to it that works really well. And finally, "Hold On" with Nelly has a Neptunes sounding beat to it, and has potential to be a future single I think. After hearing this album, this is the best to come out of St. Louis since "Country Grammar" and in many ways is better. Murph definetely outshines Nelly with this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot Album!!, September 23, 2003
This review is from: Murphy's Law (Audio CD)
Murphy Lee took his time coming all the way out to the forefront. He was on some hot shizzle when he appeared on Nelly's "Air Force Ones" and dropped the best verse on Jermaine Dupri's "Welcome to Atlanta Remix". Snoop, Diddy, Nelly and Jermaine were also featured on that cut but Murph stole the show. "Murphy's Law" is Murphy Lee's front and center "coming out" and it is destined for platinum. The still hot summer anthem "Shake ya Tailfeather" is on the album along with the first single, Jermaine Dupri produced party rocker "Wat da Hook Gon Be". I say the killer cut is Jazze Pha produced "Luv Me Baby", the ladies are definitely going to feel it. I was at Murph's listening party in St. Louis and I can tell you that Murphy Lee keeps the vibe going on "Murphy Lee," which borrows from Marvin Gaye's classic "Mercy Mercy Me." Produced by Jermaine Dupri, the cut has special meaning to Murphy, "I didn't want to use a sample, " he explains. "But that sample, was amazing to me. I had to use it. It was so perfect. I knew I didn't want to degrade the song, so I had to talk about something good. I put some good, positive stuff into the ladies' ears." All that and a companion DVD with tour footage, this album is a must have.
