5.0 out of 5 stars Murph tears it up!
I gotta say I was expecting a tight product from Murphy Lee since hearing him on "Boughetto" with Ali and the Rock the Mic (remix) with Nelly. But after listening to this CD i gotta say my expectations were surpassed! The 1st single "Wat Da Hook Gonna Be" is just crazy! Jermaine Dupri lays 1 of the best beats i've heard in awhile on this song...

For some reason, when Murphy Lee is mentioned, first thing people relate to him is Chingy instead of his St. Lunatics crew. I found the reasons when I gave this album a listen. Murphy Lee's lyrics and his delivery is completely different from Chingy's. However, they rap about the same stuff. Murphy Lee at least sound like he can rap unlike Chingy. How girls like him is getting old, and hes metaphors are like 5th graders. "I've been in LA and Washington like Tyrone Nesby." Common, Tyrone Nesby was a good basketball player if HE WAS STILL PLAYING. Many other pointless metaphors and punch lines on this album. However, the singles are worth a listen even though they are commercial. This album is really good for parties, the production is GREAT. Jazze Pha's beat was good. Now that 2 of the most promoted St. Lunatics has gone solo, and neither one showed the street side that they claimed but that's okay, they do bring a lot of positiveness into the game. But if you are looking for some kind of Ghetto, Hood, Gangsta rap, this is not the album for you.

Jermaine Dupri lays 1 of the best beats i've heard in awhile on this song. "This Goes Out" is another of the best, a bangin track featuring Roscoe, Cardin, Lil John and Lil Wayne. "Murphy Lee" another JD track has a great flow to it and is a song for the ladies, single material i think. "Luv Me Baby" produced by Jazze Pha has a great beat to it as well, kind of a rap/rock mix to it that works really well. And finally, "Hold On" with Nelly has a Neptunes sounding beat to it, and has potential to be a future single I think. After hearing this album, this is the best to come out of St. Louis since "Country Grammar" and in many ways is better. Murph definetely outshines Nelly with this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot Album!!, September 23, 2003
This review is from: Murphy's Law (Audio CD)
Murphy Lee took his time coming all the way out to the forefront. He was on some hot shizzle when he appeared on Nelly's "Air Force Ones" and dropped the best verse on Jermaine Dupri's "Welcome to Atlanta Remix". Snoop, Diddy, Nelly and Jermaine were also featured on that cut but Murph stole the show. "Murphy's Law" is Murphy Lee's front and center "coming out" and it is destined for platinum. The still hot summer anthem "Shake ya Tailfeather" is on the album along with the first single, Jermaine Dupri produced party rocker "Wat da Hook Gon Be". I say the killer cut is Jazze Pha produced "Luv Me Baby", the ladies are definitely going to feel it. I was at Murph's listening party in St. Louis and I can tell you that Murphy Lee keeps the vibe going on "Murphy Lee," which borrows from Marvin Gaye's classic "Mercy Mercy Me." Produced by Jermaine Dupri, the cut has special meaning to Murphy, "I didn't want to use a sample, " he explains. "But that sample, was amazing to me. I had to use it. It was so perfect. I knew I didn't want to degrade the song, so I had to talk about something good. I put some good, positive stuff into the ladies' ears." All that and a companion DVD with tour footage, this album is a must have.

I remember a time when rap music was good. And this album only reminds me of how corney rap music is these days. Please dont support this cornball album. I mean how corny can a album get. It just makes me mad because its just not good music at all. Where's Tupac when you need him?

5.0 out of 5 stars This album's tight!, October 7, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Murphy's Law (Audio CD)
This album is pretty cool! not the best lyrically, but still he can rap!(not as good as Nelly, but close). Now to the tracks:

Don't Blow it-I don't listen to it. The chorus sounds real messed up.-3/5

Hold Up-Tight! one of the best on the album! Nelly's hot with the chorus. 5/5

Granpa Gametight-It's alright, the chorus is weird but the rapping is okay. 3/5

Luv Me Baby-I love the chorus on this but I can't seem to listen to it for more than a minute. 3/5

Cool Wit It-It's kinda stupid, but for some reason I listen to it. Weird. 5/5

This Goes Out-Great party song! Nelly screams Oh-Wo! in the background every 5 seconds, and Lil' Jon keeps it crunk. 5/5

What Da Hook Gon Be-Why do you think i got the CD? This song's tight featuring Jermaine Dupri. 5/5

So X-Treme-Nice. I love the chorus. The rappin's good, and it has nice lyrics. 5/5

I Better Go-Great. Avery Storm does a great job with the chorus while Murph Dirt break it down. 5/5

Red Hot Riplets-Pretty cool, not the best though. The Lunatics guest appear. 4/5

Regular Guy-Um, it's okay i guess, not like the rest of the album, it's different. 4/5

God's Don't Chill-It's pretty tight, King Jacob and the professor do a great job. 4/5

Murphy Lee- different, that's all. 3/5

Shake Your Tailfeather- You've heard it you can rate it

Same Ol' Dirty- This is okay, the chorus is tight! 4/5

If you are a Lunatic fan, you should pick this up. I highly recommend it for Lunatic fans only, others will consider this pop-rap. ST. LUNATIC FAN 4 LIFE!!!

This review is from: Murphy's Law (Audio CD)
this album sucked really bad. the only good thing about it were the hooks but the verses and beats were really bad. murphy lees voice is so annoying and nelly uses a biggie line for one of the chorus. don't buy this album, it's weak.

People Don't Understand That HIP-HOP Is Being Destroyed By Bubble Gum, Fruity Cup Cake Rappers, You Are All LUCKY Tupac Isn't Here!!! Suburban Kids Honestly Don't Know Any Better, So What Do They Do? They Buy Into The Market/Publicity Schemes From The Industry, Which Typically Is The "We Are TRUE Gangsters, And We REALLY Came From The Streets Where We SOLD DOPE!" Type Of Image. Why Must We Rap About The SAME (...)SH*T, All The Time! Money, Cars, Clothes, Weed, Alcohol, And Of Cousre Women! Oh And Then Of Course To Do A Song Just For The Ladies, Then Do A Few More About Thier Strory And That's It, 14-17 Tracks, Thats What We Pay For!! 90 Percent Of These Rappers Wouldn't Exist If Tupac Was Here! All HIP-HOP Fans Need To Support Real Lyricists, TRUE Poetic, Philosophical, Revolutionary, Political MUSIC And NOT This HIP POP/POP HIP HOP!!! If It Wasn't For Nas, Jay-Z, DMX, And About 5 Other Artist, This "Culture" We Call HIP-HOP Would Be Completely Vanished, But Nevertheless It's Getting There!! Anyone Who Agrees Or Not, Let It Be KNOWN!

1.0 out of 5 stars A frustrated hip hop head., July 4, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Murphy's Law (Audio CD)
This is the last straw. Murphy Lee cant rap for gods sake, neither can 99% of the rappers on MTV nowadays. Why did my favorite music genre have to have gone mainstream? Rap is just the next disco or funk, notice how nobody likes those anymore becuase pop culture ruined them for people who liked it. ANYONE who owns a Murphy Lee, Nelly, 50 Cent, Ja rule, Chingy, Lil anybody or w/e is not a hip hop fan but a mainstream loving loser who doesnt know hip hop at all and is just trying to like what everybody else likes so they can pretend to be cool or ghetto. Go home MTV and BET and give us back the hip hop we know and love. Support the underground real hip hop heads and ban the fruity mainstream.

Peace
