Book Description

Restoration Series September 15, 2009
A muscle car has not been fully restored until the interior has been returned to original or like-new condition. Whether a car operates in a northern or southern climate, seats, carpets, and other equipment deteriorate and wear out over time. A factory-original and professional-grade interior restoration is critical for enjoying the driving experience. However, many enthusiasts and owners do not fully understand the techniques and procedures necessary to produce a premium-quality or original restoration.
While factory service manuals and magazine articles might cover bits and pieces of the interior restoration process, this book has been entirely dedicated to the process of restoring the interior. Muscle Car Interior Restoration Guide provides expert insight into the tools, materials, techniques, and procedures for professionally completing a muscle car restoration. It covers instrument panel and dashboard restoration, electrical system restoration, firewall pad, steering wheel, steering column, and pedal restoration. It also provides insight and expert guidance for restoring carpet, headliners, doors, door panels, glass restoration or replacement, convertible top restoration, upholstery replacement, and vinyl and leather seat repair.
With the prices of muscle cars high enough to make Wall Street investors pay attention, a tasteful modified or quality restored interior will mean the difference of thousands if not tens of thousands ¬ of dollars when it comes time to sell. Whether you re looking to cash in with a quality restoration, or just want to make the cockpit of your favorite muscle car a pleasant place to be, this book will help you do the trick.

This review is from: Muscle Car Interior Restoration (Restoration Series) (Paperback)
I was pretty disappointed in this book, there were not many actual do it yourself articles but a lot more of what can be done by aftermarket companies.

There was an interesting section on repairing a cracked steering wheel. It started out giving a great explanation and lot of photos, but when it came time to show the end results and the steps leading to the finished repair, there were no more photos. So I have no way of knowing how they recreated the grain or what it actually looked like.

The section on convertible top replacement was way too brief. I have actually seen more detail in some of the car magazines when they run articles like that.

The section on dash repair was basically like an ad for Just Dashes. It showed you the process they go through to recover a 1970 GTO dash, it was a reprint of an article from one of the car magazines so nothing new there. Most people know they can drop $1000 bucks and have Just Dashes recover their dash for them, so why not show a repair a home restorer can do? I happen to own a 70 GTO, so I know there is nothing the home restorer can do for that dash, so no need for that chapter. Even the section on dash gauge wiring; the author makes reference to how neatly he ran all the grounds through one wire, but doesn't bother showing what he did.
It's more a book of ideas and less a book of how to.
