Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Marjorie Jaffe, a fitness instructor to an upscale clientele in New York City, has narrowed the entire fitness thing down to 10 exercises, which can be performed in just 15 minutes a day. Her goal is postural: to help hard-working women keep their chests high, waists narrow, backs properly aligned and necks long, thus avoiding the sags and droops of impending middle age. The exercises are interesting and somewhat complex, with an emphasis on concentration and muscle control, rather than pumping up or feeling the burn.

From Booklist

Most exercise books use a hook, a theme to grab readers' attention--in this case, the "muscle memory method," which means, we are told, that the "mind learns a new concept and transmits it to the muscles." This may seem an obtuse idea, but the exercises, advice, and techniques involved are well founded and easy to follow. Jaffe and Sgammato's daily program includes just 10 simple exercises, concisely explained and clearly illustrated. (Additional routines that require hand weights and emphasize specific breathing techniques also appear.) This presentation speaks especially to beginning exercisers who need encouragement instead of overwhelming routines and extravagant promises. Sue-Ellen Beauregard

Marjorie Jaffe has been the best-kept secret among Manhattan's trim set for years and this book reveals why. Her method, which started as a way to help people with bad backs, really works!
