4.0 out of 5 stars
full of useful routines and techniques, June 28, 2006
This review is from: Muscleblasting: Brief and Brutal Shock Training (Paperback)
On the About the Authors page, it is clearly stated "Don Ross authored the text of this book. The photos were provided by Robert Kennedy."
The book could have been better. Unfortunately, most of the photos have no practical value, and the appendix of exercises has text descriptions with no illustrations. However, I still think Mustleblasting is a keeper.
It contains a lot of different workout routines and various techniques that represent years of bodybuilding experience. Ross's explanation of a method called "Breakdowns" helped me understand something I had previously read in Fred Hatfield's Hardcore Bodybuilding. For me, this tid-bit of information alone was worth the price of admission.
The book has a pretty good index, which seems fairly typical of the books published by Sterling (at least the ones I've read).
One of the most interesting chapters explains such tricks as how to tear a telephone book or license plate in half, how to bend a steel bar with your teeth, etc.
Ross was a professional bodybuilder (winning several titles throughout the 70's), and a professional wrestler (calling himself Ripper Savage). Unfortunately, he died in 1995 at the age of 48, apparently of a heart attack. Some say it was caused by steroid use.
Being as "the Ripper" is no longer around, his book will probably never be updated or republished and is likely to become a rare find.
Chapters include:
Tools for Transformation
Building a Strong Foundation
Stimulating Muscle Growth
Increasing Your Strength
Secrets of Continued Progress
Training Around Injuries
Bodybuilding Competition
Feats of Strenth - Secrets of the Strongmen
Appendix: The Exercises

A very powerful Book !!, August 28, 2007
This review is from: Muscleblasting: Brief and Brutal Shock Training (Paperback)
I had this book long time ago. Think since 1990 or so. Well I remember very well it changed the way my body appeared at this time (I took what was written very seriously and I bulked a lot) Of course it is out of date now, but if you want something with really good routines of the old era. This book is for you, give it a try.
