2.0 out of 5 stars Fell Apart.
The content was good, at least for the first 1/3, until the binding broke and the book started losing pages. For the price, one would hope the book would last through at least one reading and not fall apart like some cheap paperback.

Forget the first edition of this text - the second edition is a complete revision with new authors, the bulk of the book written by Dr. B. J. Manaster. If you have read Dr. Manaster's Handbook of Skeletal Radiology, you will find that her chapters follow that book closely, with the addition of many images of excellent quality. This is a vast improvement over the prior edition, and ranks up there with the best of the Requisites series. I wish I had this book when I was first rotating through MSK radiology, but it will make a good review book for the boards.
More senior radiology residents may find the MRI detail a bit lacking, but there is no question in my mind that this is the best overall MSK book for radiology residents out there today.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hi Yield Book, June 4, 2002
By A Customer
I thought that this book laid out information in a very clear, high yield manner. Great for any resident whether starting to master MSK or for use in board review. I really like how the authors have also inserted actual practice guidelines for real world use. Overall, I think if you had to have one book and did not have the time to read Resnick's book, this would be the one to get.

5.0 out of 5 stars regarding first review, January 31, 2006
The first review with one star refers to the FIRST edition of this series which was a different author. The second edition here HAS been redone just as the writer correctly suggested.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very good book for residents, March 17, 2009

This review is from: Musculoskeletal Imaging: The Requisites, 3e (Requisites in Radiology) (Hardcover)
This book has almost everything you need for your Radiology residence, particularly the first years. It's easy to read and has good images and schemes. I think the introductory chapters and those about arthritis are particularly good. This textbook covers aspects of conventional radiology as well as MRI, although the latter could be improved, I believe. In that sense, you may want to complete your MK library with Kaplan's MK MRI and then you'll have everything a general radiologist could need and should know about musculoskeletal diagnostic imaging.

I am radiology resident and I bought this book as review alternative to the big textbooks, I was really surprised it, it is a very complete book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!, July 24, 2011

This review is from: Musculoskeletal Imaging: The Requisites, 3e (Requisites in Radiology) (Hardcover)
I'm a newly minted second-year radiology resident and am currently having my second go-around at MSK. During my first year, I focused on the little pink Helms MSK book (essentially the same material as what is in the big Brant and Helms book), which was excellent for teaching MSK plain films and the basics of MRI.

Now that I'm starting to dabble in reading MRIs, I needed to find a more advanced text. I haven't read this book in its entirety, but the chapters that I've read have been excellent. MSK --- and especially MSK MRI --- is one of the radiology subspecialties that a lot of people find very difficult to grasp (in part due to the confusing anatomy). This book explains things in some degree of detail, but not to the point of being overwhelming or intimidating. There are ample images for the included disease processes, usually in multiple modalities.

There are more comprehensive/advanced books available, but this book is a concise, high-yield alternative for residents wanting to learn the basics of MSK radiology.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excelente livro para a residência!, April 23, 2008

That's a great book to be read over the residency. It does not substitute the classical ones but adds a lot (updated e comprehensive).

1.0 out of 5 stars The weak link in the Requisites series, March 31, 2000
By A Customer
I am a big fan of the Requisites series of texts. In general, they are some of the best introductory radiology textbooks available, with great organization and well selected content. However, the Musculoskeletal Requisites has little in common with the other books. It is organized into a series of neverending lists, which, while perhaps suitable for a study guide, make the reading of the book a chore. While none of the Requisites books are definitive texts, this one has more holes in its content than the others as well. Hopefully the book will be completely revamped for the second edition. I can't recommend it in its present form.
