5.0 out of 5 stars Aural Bliss, Dreaming Awake, November 4, 2006

Paul Avgerinos' "Muse of the Round Sky" is a wonderfully expansive dreamscape that fans of New Age and World Music will enjoy having in their collection. Rich in aural textures, musically mature, this is the perfect recording to put on when you're needing some time for soul-searching, an armchair vacation, quiet contemplation, or simple solitude. Insert this CD in your player and let Avgerinos carry you away to the distant shores of your most satisfying dreams. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect and Moody, June 29, 2001

This review is from: Muse of the Round Sky (Audio CD)
This CD is one of the best pieces of new age I have ever heard. It is soothing at times, moody at others, but always enjoyable. It has its own style, but achieves the intelligence and moodiness of Peter Gabriel's Last Temptation of Christ and the spaciness of Steve Roach's Dreamtime Return. I have listened to this music for years now, but it always remains one of my most frequently played CDs. Truly an exceptional and under-rated collection of songs.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Oceanic Musical Tapestry, March 2, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Muse of the Round Sky (Audio CD)
This cd gets alot of rotation from my collection. I usually play this music late in the evening and it is a musical mind journey. The music explores the mythos of Homer's epic poem, The Odyssey. With song titles like Signs and a Vision and The Lotus Eaters, you are transported to another time where one eyed monsters and gods and godesses enrich the lives of mankind. The music flows with sounds from the sea with deep bass drones and washes of synthesizers, guitars and flutes. Surely you will be floating above the greek islands. I am a Hippie and I have heard thousands of cds, The Muse in the Round Sky is a must have. Especially for fans of Pink Floyd (meddle, animals, dark side of the moon) and Andreas Vollenweider (Behind The Gardens and Caverna Magica) and Tangerine Dream. Enjoy the exotic and exciting ride of Paul Avgerinos's musical tapestry!

5.0 out of 5 stars Difficult to surpass, March 23, 2011
This orchestral style piece is brilliant and universal.
I would compare it to Prokofiev or Ravel's ravishing concertos,
but, I don't know quite how to describe this din of manic Gods
of ancient ecstasy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Breathtaking atmospheres, May 22, 2007
This review is from: Muse of the Round Sky (Audio CD)
'Muse of the Round Sky' is a different concept of an album. In fact, the best songs on it are the slowest, almost static ones. Paul Avgerino's textures get you really into dreamy landscapes of epic proportions and supernatural qualities.

The mystic feel of the whole album makes me put it in a very special place and there are a few very special themes which reach the top of evocative, original music. More than music, it is often a 'wall of sound' that get you inside as a cobeweb and you don't want it to end.

I find specially astonishing, in the track 'Signs and a Vision', the way a synthesiser loop flows into an ethereal reversed electric guitar along with a very strong bass line, and the atmosphere slowly dissolves... until you find yourself in a strange and wonderful, motionless scene in wich a beautiful alto sax is playing crazy and beautiful scales, almost as if it was in paradise. This theme is amazing and the next one, 'Grace of the Witch' continues the feel, if making it a bit more obscure and expressive.

Another wonderful track is the title one, which unfolds a masterly and sensitively played Spanish Guitar in a timeless musical texture that takes you far from everything.

A wonderful work that grows with every listen and you will find probably a bit dull at the beginning, but the rewards of a small effort will be beyond belief. If you like company Avgerino's fella Tim Story with his quiet and meditative textures, this album is a must have, if a bit more epical and ethnical at times.
