5.0 out of 5 stars The best album you'll ever hear, if you can find a copy!, May 18, 2003

I first heard this album in 1989 or 1990; a good friend of mine let me make a cassette copy of it. It was the best CD any of us had heard in a long time. It still continues to be one of our favorites. Sadly, my friend lent the CD to another, not so good, friend, and he lost it. Well, I have searched high and low for this CD; in a store in Atlanta, GA, I found a promo CD with a few songs on it, including a couple tracks not on the original CD. Now, thanks to Amazon and doublezero, I now have the original CD. I still can't believe someone was selling their copy of this great CD. It is not printed anymore, and I know hardly anyone has ever heard of Mary My Hope, but they could have been one of the greats. If you can find this CD, listen to it and you'll just love it. If you like rock n' roll and great music and great lyrics, you'll love this album. I recommend this CD to everyone. It kicks ...!!

4.0 out of 5 stars almost there, February 14, 2003

I saw this band live in 89-90 and they were incredible. I got the album and was very impressed by the song writing, but the production wasn't great. The singer James has a great voice and the band was very fluid. You can hear their influences, which is refreshing now (2003) because it's alot of Pink Floyd, Janes, Led Zep.
They were a band that if only they had the right producer and lightened up just a bit, could have been a huge band.
It's defenitly worth a listen. it will make you remember the times before "rap-metal" and all that, and when melody and good songwriting counted for something. It should be part of your collection, "if only they..."

5.0 out of 5 stars Sadly overlooked band..., March 2, 2011

I know! All of you other reviewers are right, Mary My Hope is an incredible band, what a shame they are so little known. I only have "Museum" on a cassette, and I probably should buy the CD while it's still available because if my cassette ever goes bad I will be devastated at the loss. I love their sound, all the songs are great--I especially am fond of "Suicide King" and "Heads and Tails"--their songwriting is interesting and I agree with one reviewer that they have a Soundgarden-ish sound, which I like--although really there is nobody they compare to that much, they are quite unique. I used to own the album of this as well, but I lost it--too bad because it had some interesting things that the cassette and probably CD doesn't. Anyway, get this if you like great music, and you know what I think I'll go ahead and buy the CD, it's quite cheap and who knows how long it will be available....

5.0 out of 5 stars Believe the comments and track this down., August 21, 2010

In the early 90's, college radio was all over this band and I picked up this album only for the song "Suicide King". Little did I expect the album would become one of my favorite albums, rock or otherwise. It's kind of phycedelic trippy gothic Soundgaren-ish metal. A genuine underappreciated gem. Online music guides usually rate this album an little known classic, and the singer,James Hall, an unknown rock star.Moody and surreal, "Museum" by Mary My Hope is a disc I have played on jobs or around friends and people frequently ask "who is this?", and "can you burn me a copy?"

4.0 out of 5 stars One Of the Few bands that could have made a difference., December 26, 2008
This review is from: Museum (Audio CD)
One Of the Few bands that could have made a difference.
At the time I first heard this album I was Reviewing Music and Bands for Local Magazines in New York City, I felt then as I do now this was a band that had real Promise, out of the thousands and thousands of Cd's I owned and gave away Mary My Hope-Museum is still in My collection Although it's in the Form of a tape, that will change today because I finally found the CD here at Amazon. I was Hoping that they where the new rock for the 90's but then The grunge crap took the sheep by the balls and that was the end of music for the 90's finally after all that time rock is alive again.

5.0 out of 5 stars James Hall is Great!, April 6, 2005
This review is from: Museum (Audio CD)
Mary My Hope was my favorite band in the way back when. James Hall and the Pleasure Club are great now too. However, there's something raw and beautiful about Museum and the whole Mary My Hope sound. It's a must have for anyone who likes introspective melodrama or just loves to hear James Hall's voice.
