2.0 out of 5 stars Full of little holes and too creepy, to boot, February 21, 2009
This review is from: The Museum's Secret: The Remarkable Adventures of Tom Scatterhorn (Book 1) (Hardcover)
Not a very well crafted book. Many illogical moments, big and small. Disjointed plot. No character development. The main character has no consistent friend (either animal or human) -- the closest the book comes to this is a bird who sometimes shows up when needed and sometimes does not.

Clueless adult characters. Some parents may find this objectionable. As well as the fact that the 11-year-old main character is frequently described as "cursing" in anger. (Though the words he uses are not printed!)

Some of the imagery is disturbing. Decaying corpses strapped into airplane seats hanging from a jungle canopy. A child character is killed (frozen in icy water) before the eyes of the main character. Too much for some young readers.

I wonder if the volume intended for American readers was "Americanized" -- as some (but not all) British expressions were replace with US counterparts. This is a distraction.

Not a very good book, unfortunately. Kind of a Harry Potter wannabe. (Tom is a "lynchpin" in some great undefined event but this idea is never developed.)
