Book Description

June 15, 2006
This fascinating, well-researched guidebook describes for the first time in print the full gamut of museums, zoos, and botanical gardens in Wisconsin and the broad spectrum of cultural artifacts and natural history collections in the state. It invites everyone to enjoy a rich variety of sites, from the famous Milwaukee Art Museum to the smallest local historical society. The book:

·          includes more than 400 art museums, historical museums and societies, zoos and nature centers, botanical gardens, house museums and historic buildings, heritage farms, spiritual sites, sculpture parks, halls of fame, and other unique sites
·          is organized in four geographic regions, with maps indicating cities where sites are found.
·          offers for each site the street address, contact numbers, hours of operation, admission fees, collection highlights, and a witty, informative description
·          includes several indexes to help visitors find their own areas of interest.

Museums, zoos or botanical gardens are found throughout Wisconsin, in almost every county. These are assets of cultural and natural history preserved for the public’s educational and recreational use. With such a variety of places to visit, travelers can easily plan destinations for an extended vacation or short one-day trips.

4.0 out of 5 stars Could have used a better editor, May 10, 2007
This review is from: Museums, Zoos, and Botanical Gardens of Wisconsin: A Comprehensive Guidebook to Cultural, Artistic, Historic, and Natural History Collections in the Badger State (Paperback)
I picked up a copy of this book from my local library today, hoping to plan a summer vacation using the information therein. It's going to be a tough read if the rest of the book is filled with as many spelling and grammar errors as I found on the first few pages! Hopefully, the actual content of the book will be useful enough to overshadow this. If Mr. Rajer releases a second edition, I hope he finds a new editor.

5 stars for content, 3 stars for comprehension.

The guide is clear, concise and easy to read; doesn't get into too much detail but provides enough to make traveling around Wisconsin fun. Great for people who like road trips and learning more about Wisconsin's many local points of interest.

Except for college and graduate school years,I've lived all of my life in Wisconsin. This volume illustrated how little I know about my own state with its wealth of museum opportunities. It has whet my own desire to visit more of these small and large museums. If you like culture, history and museums of various kinds, travel with this book and enjoy another part of Wisconsin's heritage. The auther has done a fine job of research.
