Awesome stuff, with two caveats,
By Jason A. Mills (San Jose, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Musher's Secret Pet Paw Protector Wax, 7-Ounce (Misc.)
I've been an intermittent paw-wax user for a long time, most recently converted to Musher's Secret. I do not live in a snow-belt region so this is primarily for surface-contact protection rather than preventing inter-pad snow buildup. The stuff is awesome, however I have two caveats: 1) Use a latex or nitrile rubber glove when applying it. ... Unless of course you intend to wax your paws as well. :-) This also lets you use it sparingly while still working it thoroughly into the paw pad and inter-pad fur. 2) If you are putting this stuff on a mixed-location dog (indoors + walks or indoors + outdoors), put it on at the front door on your way out, otherwise the non-absorbed fraction leaves warm waxy paw-prints all over indoor surfaces.

Musher's Secret really works.,

I have a German Shepherd dog and I use Musher's Secret on his paws during the winter so that the salt and ice do not hurt them. He used to spend a lot of time licking his paws before I got this and now he doesn't do it as much when it snows (although he seems to like licking the Musher's Secret from his paws when I've just put it on) and he doesn't do it at all in normal weather. His paws tend to get worn and this product helps soothe and protect them. You don't have to use a lot either, so it lasts a long time. Thank you Musher's Secret for my baby's happy feet!

Brilliant stuff for rock-salt sensitive paws,
By Jenvan (Brookhaven, PA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Invisible Dog Boots - Protect Paws From Sand, Hot Pavement, Ice, and Salt with All Natural 100% Wax-Based Cream. For Dogs Who Just Won't Wear Boots. - 60gm (Misc.)
My terrier-mutt would cry and lie on her belly trying to pick up all four paws at once after only a few steps on rock salt with snow and ice. Boots were a nightmare. Musher's Secret has her trotting along over any surface, no problem. No mess on floors or carpets. Fantastic miracle product for us! (Does not help against slipping on wood/tile floors though - it's not meant to, but just in case anyone is looking for a multi-use salve.)

A soothing balm,

Someone recommended this to me, and I wasn't sure exactly what to expect. My 40 lb boxer mix, Lori, was spooked over the 4th of July, and ran away - she ran so fast and hard on the paved roads (neighbors along the route saw her flying by) that she tore up her paw pads pretty bad - to the point that they were bleeding when someone finally found her and called me after a hot day and 2 nights "out there". After a few weeks, the sores had healed, but we've had a time of trying to get her pads toughened up. We take her to daycare a couple of times per week, but have had to curtail her time there because playing in the pools and with the other dogs, she would come home with raw, cracked paw pads. Finally, I ordered this product, and she is now able to go on long walks, and stay at daycare all day, and her paw pads are fine. This isn't a protective "coating" as much as a balm to keep her pads supple and moisturized so that they do not crack and peel. There have been a lot of reviews from the folks up north about this helping for cold / salt. Count this as a recommendation for those in the southern heat during the summer.

WINTER WALKING PROTECTION.,
By
This review is from: Musher's Secret Pet Paw Protector Wax, 7-Ounce (Misc.)
MUSHER'S SECRET WORKS GREAT. I USE IT ON MY DOG'S FEET A FEW TIMES A WEEK. WE WALK EVERYDAY 3-4 MILES IN THE WINTER IN THE VERY COLD UPSTATE NEW YORK. THIS IS THE BEST STUFF TO PROTECT A DOG'S FEET. IT GOES ON EASY. MOST IMPORTANTLY IT WILL NOT STAIN YOUR CARPET. THE 200 gm TUB IS THE BEST DEAL. I WOULD RECOMEND THIS PRODUCT TO EVERYONE. IT WORKS GREAT IN WARM WEATHER TO PROTECT AGAINST HOT TARMAC TOO.

Didn't work for me!,

After reading the other reviews I was excited to try this. I have a 60lb lab mix who loves to run in the snow. Extreme cold temps and road salt made it painful. I've tried this product a couple times and it did not work for my dog. First the product says it dries in a few minutes after applied. This did not dry and left greasy paw prints on my rug. Also, once out in the snow, it appeared the snow stuck to my dogs feet and he painfully picked up his feet more frequently. My latest attempt was a disaster. After walking on the street, the slushy grime, typical once snow starts to melt, mixed with the Musher's Secret and formed a tar-like consistency stuck between my dogs toes. Wiping his feet did not remove it and only after several washings with Dawn dishwashing liquid did the grime come out. Unfortunately I now have black, greasy paw prints on my good rugs.Am I doing something wrong? Any advice?

Bootie's are not for every dog!,
By
This review is from: Musher's Secret Pet Paw Protector Wax, 7-Ounce (Misc.)
I had tried other brands of "wax" for my puppy, but for one reason or another, they just were not working for us. I have a mini toy poodle, and booties either slip down and fall off, or she's getting her hair stuck in the velcro tabs. I heard about Musher's Secret on the "dog whisperer" email site, somebody had asked what to use on dog paws in extreme cold, and the answer, over and over again, was Musher's Secret. I bought it, and after only two applications, my puppy's little paws are nice and healthy looking again, and no more chemical dryness or burns form the ice cutters and salt used here in Colorado. It's great in extreme heat as well, so we'll be using this product for a long time!

Don't believe that Vaseline is better...this stuff is great!,
By Learning Grace (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Musher's Secret Pet Paw Protector Wax, 7-Ounce (Misc.)
I purchased Musher's Secret almost two years ago when we got our Bichon/Poodle. It was recommended by our dog trainer for the winter weather. However, the idea of rubbing something on the dog's feet just wasn't an idea I could embrace so I put the stuff on a shelf where it has been ever since. About two or three months ago our dog began to bite and chew on her paws all day long. Her pads were sore, dry and cracked and the vet tried different things, but nothing worked. Two days ago, while watching the dog chew frantically at her paws and feeling helpless, I suddenly remembered about the Musher's Secret. I still wasn't keen on the idea of rubbing it on bare handed so I put on some plastic, disposable gloves and rubbed the stuff into her paws. Presto! She has not chewed on her feet since that moment. I don't know why exactly, but it worked! As for substituting Vaseline, I don't think it would have the same effect, particulary for a pet with dry, cracked paws because Vaseline seals OUT moisture which is great, but it also blocks moisture from getting IN. This would not help to resolve an issue with dry cracked paws. I would be very surprised if Vaseline offered the same amount of protection from ice balls and hot pavement either. I am sure Vaseline would wreak havoc on carpets and furniture too, unlike Musher's Secret which seems undetectable once it is applied. HIGHLY RECOMMEND and worth every penny!

Musher's is best kept secret!,
By TJ (Chicago, IL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Musher's Secret Pet Paw Protector Wax, 7-Ounce (Misc.)
The sub-zero cold snap and icy conditions during Chicago's early winter storms this year was particularly hard on our pug (who's paws are too tiny for boots) and even for our bull mastiff. Musher's really protected and insulated their paws, and I even noticed that after putting it on my dogs and rubbing the residue into my hands, the natural waxes kept my hands much warmer in my gloves!
