4.0 out of 5 stars Very good, but fans can be disappointed.
Yes indeed, it is a very good downtempo hiphop/acid jazz mix, really better than most of chill-out compilations on the market.

Unfortunately, I think fans won't find the magic of last Mushroom Jazz, especially the 2 and the 4.

Yes indeed, it is a very good downtempo hiphop/acid jazz mix, really better than most of chill-out compilations on the market.

Unfortunately, I think fans won't find the magic of last Mushroom Jazz, especially the 2 and the 4.

Like in MJ 5, the trackselection is good but goes in a less coherent way compared to the other MJ. You won't find the strangeness and deepness of the 2, or the betwitching storytelling sound of the 4.

About the trackselection itself, you'll find here very good jazzy hiphop tracks, perhaps a bit more jazzy than the 5 The first 3 tracks are very good, Mark Farina'one "Life" is sweet too, and that's just examples.

But, Mark, where are the spoken vocals your placed through your Mushroom Jazz? Those spoken words which made your mixes like nothing else!

What a pity!

Perhaps that old fans will be disappointed, but for those who don't know Mushroom Jazz, it's still a strong release. There is no bad MJ!
Nevertheless, if you want the real cream of Mushroom Jazz, buy the two or the four with this one!

So I'm a usual suspect to stalk the Five Dollar Fridays for music I could possibly be interested in..and not feel so bad after buying it if it's bad, and know I got a steal if it's great. This certain mix falls into the latter category. This CD is a great mix of sort of an ethereal dance and jazz music style. I'm not even familiar with Mushroom Jazz, but this is good stuff...and well worth the five dollars. If you're looking for some laid back music that you can just sit back and chill to, this it...go spend the five bucks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the series IMO, September 6, 2010
This review is from: Mushroom Jazz 6 (Audio CD)
I consider myself somewhat of a collector of this genre of music.I have all of these compilations , and I think that this is the best one so far. Perhaps some could make the claim that I should make allowances for a recency effect , but the fact of the matter is that IMO the tracks from 3-18 are ALL SOLID and of course Farina is going to put it together seamlessly. My criticism of MJ 3 , 4 ,and 5 are that they have tracks that I thought were weak mixed in with really good ones. From 'Baaaby' all the way to 'Transit' this CD is one trippy vibe that will expose anyone unfamiliar with this genre to the best of what is currently out there. My favorite tracks are Baaaby , Calm Down(which I wish he would've let run longer) , Alive , the What? , and Way back when. Excellent job++++++++++

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect downtempo, July 4, 2010

I've had this mix for two years now. It still gets play-time. Nice for that day after a long night out. It has that signature Farina sound, but this time based on a hip-hop beat overlaid with jazz/hip-hop samples. You'll hear lots of lazy hooks and the mix stays consistent throughout.

I am a HUGE fan of Mark Farina. Each volume brings on a different vibe, yet all are exceptionally HOT!!! The series makes for a great party in itself. I played it for my mother's 70th birthday party, and people of ALL ages enjoyed it. I am anxiously awaiting volume 7. Love the way you put it down, Mark...keep doing what you do!!!

This comes from a long line of Mushroom Jazz mixes DJ Mark Farina has done over the years and they are all quite good.

5.0 out of 5 stars One super-pleasing hour..., January 19, 2009
This review is from: Mushroom Jazz 6 (MP3 Download)
I agree wholeheartedly that this is a steal at [...] bucks. It plays as a single masterpiece (endings are abrupt if you don't listen to the whole thing on order). Awesome mix... great sound for our lounge. It has heavy tones of Jazz, with just the right mix of hip-hop. Very nice job, Mark!

I'm gonna nab his other full-length...

Ah, Mark Farina. You know you can put a hurting on mixes. Would love to be in your head when you are putting these together. I have to say that as soon as you put it on, you know this is going to be a great journey. For me tracks 5 to 7 really got me going. I tend to repeat these. The only mix I wasn't crazy about tracks 10-13, but it hits me again from track 14 to the fabulous end. This cd is a buy as far as I'm concerned. Keeps me moving. ;-)

Mark Farina has done it again. Smooth Music with a bumping beat and vocals thrown it to add to the rhythm. If you are not a fan of Mark Farina and Mushroom jazz you should be. I could go on, but I'll keep it short and sweet. Buy this recording. You will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Maybe the Best Mushroom Jazz Yet!!!, November 10, 2008
This review is from: Mushroom Jazz 6 (Audio CD)
Having just listened to Mushroom Jazz 6 for the first time, I can tell even from this first listen that this is probably going to become my favorite Mushroom Jazz album of the series.

Without a doubt, this is the volume that really emphasizes the "Jazz" part of its name. With a smooth, groovy and swinging vibe throughout, Mushroom Jazz 6 takes the listener on a wonderfully trippy tour of the jazzy side of Mark Farina's dope downtempo beats. My toe has been tapping and my head has been bobbing to the beat throughout, which is what it's all about, right??

Highly recommended. If you're familiar with the series, just buy it and be prepared to enjoy the sonic trip...
