Product Description

Platform: Nintendo DS

Mushroom Men: Rise of the Fungi on Nintendo DS is the prequel to Mushroom Men: Spore Wars on Wii. Play both to get the complete story! Mushroom Men gives players the opportunity to jump into the fantastic microcosm that is the backyard battlefield. Take control of the crusade, creating devastating weapons from everyday items and teaming up with other sentient plant forms that'll leave the enemy sliced and diced. Let the stylus be your rapier and the Wii Remote your bazooka as you cut down the multitude of household pests that threaten our very existence! Mushroom Men inhabit the world that goes on while we humans are looking the other way, in the twilight hours when we sleep. We tower above them and go about our business completely unaware of the war waged at our feet. After the comet had passed, the scientists concluded that the strange, green dust had no effect on the world. No one noticed that tiny plants and fungi were acting strangely. Mushrooms, cacti, flowers and vines had awakened to full consciousness. Tribes quickly formed, building plant and fungi nations and with nation building… came war! Mushroom Men shows gamers the mundane world from the surreal perspective of a three inch high Mushroom Man. As a brave Bolete Mushroom, players can wreak havoc on their enemies by transforming common household trinkets and trash into weapons and tools.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Game for the DSiXL., July 18, 2010
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mushroom Men: Rise of the Fungi (Video Game)
The main complaint I have read about for Mushroom Men: Rise of the Fungi was that the controls were really hard to use. They were hard to use due to the size of the screen from what I've seen. I have only played this game on the DSiXL and due to the larger screen I have not ran into these problems, this allowed me to really engross myself in the game because I was not fighting the controls.

Pros:
Great style- this game has a very unique style that is all on its one.
Good Story- Simple but goes very smoothly.
Good Sound- The music was made by one of the best, Les Claypool.
Weapons- You make your weapons out of random houshold objects.
Price- $5 is hard to beat for this game.

Cons:
Controls- Would be very frustrating on a standard size screen. Works Great on the DSiXL.
Combat- Very basic combat system.

This is fun for everyone but i will not lie it is a beast to beat. The game is great for the items you get to optimize in several ways such as if you find a pill and some batteries, you make acid pills that kill your enemies the bugs. The story line is great and very catchy on the graphics, check it out for real!!!!!!!!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Rise and Fall and Fall and Fall of the Mushroom Men, June 10, 2011
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Mushroom Men: Rise of the Fungi (Video Game)
I was completely looking forward to this game- interesting characters, basic fighting, scavenging, and roaming around a 2.5d world collecting stuff- things I love in most games I choose to play. But no! Super bummer! This game is ridiculously hard. Not fun hard, annoying hard. Any time you fall (almost any fall, even the tiniest one) you die. With the amount of jumping and trusting a easily breakable grapple to get around in this game you die. A lot. Which really ruins the fun of immersing yourself in a game. Within a half an hour of playing, I was ready to throw my DS (XL too, so that didn't seem to help) out the window. I don't even want to try and trade it in since I don't want to curse anyone else with it. Not worth my money or yours.
