The other side,

This review is from: Mushroomhead, Vol. 2 (DVD)
Mushroomhead has stated their view on DVDs. Summed up, they want them Home-Video style. Everyone can see plenty of songs and live performances if they just type the name into google, but you never really see the human side of the band, and that's what they wanted to portray. And that's exactly what they did.
It's a nice break from the whole professional act you see everywhere, it's a peek into the kinds of people they are. It's a look at how hard it is for the new guy to take in having to do what bands do. Throughout the video it's kind of made apparent that Waylon isn't used to the kind of goofing off these guys do, as shown with a scene where he almost beats up Rick (ST1TCH) for hitting him with a water bottle. Mushroomhead's "Volume II" stays true to the home-video style they wanted to achieve. The whole thing is basically them goofing off, as I've said before: Some of it is inside jokes, some of it isn't, and you're really not usually given the events leading up to it. It's funny, in a special sort of way. The video comes with a good number of music videos, including 1200, Simple Survival and Burn to name a few. It also comes with live performances for those three tracks I just named, but filmed on one lone camera, and it's kind of messy (In 1200, you can barely hear anything over the drums, which the camera guy is standing next to). It also comes with a commentary for 1200, during which ST1TCH, Skinny and House (ST1TCH and Skinny edited the video, and House directed it) give some insight into the directing and editing of the film, commenting on things like how much blood was on Jeff, the quality of the edits, and how it managed to be shown on MTV. It also comes with the making of "Save Us," which shows the members during the recording of the video in the same home-video format. For fans of Ventana, ST1TCH's other band, there's a few clips that take place during Ventana performances (at one point one of their demo tracks being performed is heard in the background) and some of the sounds heard in the DVD menu are taken from Ventana, too. Bottom line, if you're a fan of Mushroomhead, or even just Industrial/Nu Metal in general, this is one amazing DVD.

Picks up from Vol 1,
By Chamberlain "bobo1033" (slc,ut) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mushroomhead, Vol. 2 (DVD)
This DVD picks up with the antics of the band pretty much where we left them. The quality of the video is better and the sound is better, but that is to be expected. The off stage stuff is pretty entertaining, but the real reason to get this are the videos. If you liked Vol.1 This is the same, but better. I was suprised that they put in the footage of the in-band-fights. I guess it happens but it was interesting to see it on the DVD.

EVERYTHING UP TO THE NEW ALBUM IS AWESOME,
This review is from: Mushroomhead, Vol. 2 (DVD)
This is a good dvd, its not meant for widescreen tv's which i have, but for the 10 dollars and change i paid it was well worth the money. I was excited at the entering of Waylon and thought Savior Sorrow was a great album and stood up to the previous entries. The videos on this dvd which are listed in another review here are great up until the newest album. I noticed a recurring theme of "the end" in the last album, and the sarcasm they portay while being unmasked as well in one video is unfortunate and a scary thought since it truly seems this may be the end for them, I dont know that for sure, but i dont think im the only person that could have felt that way. In that video they even look dissapointed on purpose. Anyways, the live is decent, the backstage is just as good as volume 1 and that along with the videos is why you will be buying this. Overall it lost a star compared to the first volume due to the more commercial newer album "beautiful stories for ugly children".

I had the chance to see this DVD, some of the content on it is not appropriate for children. Anyways I love all the footage of the band goofing around and I also love the music videos. There was a lot of backstage and live concert footage mixed here. You also see the band in ridiculous cardboard and duck tape outfits playing with swords running around the street, sword fighting, which was awesome. The packaging on the DVD is awesome. If you're a fan of Mushroomhead, you'll enjoy this.

A Look Behind the Masks,
By Siklootd (Santa Fe, NM) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mushroomhead, Vol. 2 (DVD)
Being a long time Mushroomhead fan, I became curious about the content of their latest DVD which was recently released. Volume 2 is a great DVD that gives fans the backstage insight as to how exactly the band members act when not in their alternative identities wearing the trademark masks associated with the group. The band records their daily activities that occur while on tour, a tour that last over 50 days, and the viewer gets first hand view of the antics that all of the band members partake in.
From painting other bands' trailers pink, mocking other bands during their set, attacking one another while members of the band are either sleeping or are not expecting it, or to more improvised practical jokes, the members of Mushroomhead show that in general, they like to have a good time. The DVD breaks up the craziness of the band members, with musical interludes provided in the form of music videos to several of their biggest hits from their latest album "Savior Sorrow". Members such as St1tch, Gravy, and Jeffrey Nothing, tend to be the ones performing the majority of the jokes on their fellow band mates, and it seems as if everyone is pretty good about taking the jokes, all that is, except for Waylon. The inclusion of the tension that exists between veteran members of the band and the newest addition, Waylon, shows that after being locked in a confined space for over 50 days with someone you already have tension with will only cause these feelings to surface even more. By keeping this portion of the DVD on the film, the band shows that they too are human, and that not everyone gets along 100% of the time. The video features snippets of live performances, fan greetings, and extensive behind the scenes footage of the band getting ready to perform. The only drawback to the DVD is the lack of live performances, instead minimizing these clips to a few random seconds and minutes throughout the DVD. Despite this drawback, there is still plenty of other content on here to satisfy fans. If you enjoy Mushroomhead, and want to see how the band acts when they are simply being themselves, then you will want to pick up this DVD. It is truly a great way to see who each member of Mushroomhead is and allows you to feel more connected with the band.

OK, so Mushroomhead's second DVD was a great watch, there was a lot more behind the scenes antics that I liked from Vol. 1 and also the music videos and live performances that are awesome! The one thing that shocked me about the DVD is that there was a LOT of J-Mann by the time the DVD was released J-Mann was ex-Mushroomhead communicated, and Waylon was a full member of the band, one shocking thing about the DVD was that they actually showed inner-band tensions between the long-term band members and Waylon. The only things that I did not like about Vol. 2 is that the chapters were seperated by titles instead of normal chapter selection on DVD's and that the bonus features were kind of lackluster, stand-alone music videos for 12Hundred, Simple Survival, Burn, Damage Done, Erase The Doubt, and Save Us/Embrace The Ending (2 separate song 1 long 9 minute video). A Making of for Save Us, Commentary on the music videos, and deleted scenes/outtakes. Now while there were no deleted scenes on Vol. 1 the addition of them on Vol. 2 was a welcome surprise but, I thought that there should have more footage added to the deleted scenes, and less in the outakes, the outakes were more deleted scenes and less outakes and the deleted scenes were more Making Of, for Save Us and less deleted footage from the actual Vol. 2 footage.

Big MRH fan! Have seen them live 4 times in ft. lauderdale,(with J Mann & Waylan), The live show is great! they're music is great! Wish they would do a whole live show(with at least 4or5 cameras)on the DVD. They do one song
(1 camera from drummers -Stitch- view,the audio SUCKS). The music videos are cool(whats up with the chicken?), After buying Vol.1, (3 years ago)(WHICH I LIKED BETTER) Hoped Vol.2 would be a little better production level. Some of the "Day-in-the-life" stuff was funny(some nice Booby shots) All-in-All, If you love MRH you'll like the DVD(it was worth the $8 i spent) - M U S H R O O M H E A D R O C K S - |
