I love this CD. I had it on vinyl when I was a kid. This still sounds great but the sound on some of the tracks is obviously a recording from the 12" record. Of the 55 tracks, 53 sound great and 2 sound a bit worse.
All in all, it is a great recording and I love listening to it.

If you enjoy military music in general and fife and drum music in particular, this stirring CD is the one to buy. You will find none better. The sound is great and the selection is all you could ask for in one album. I defy any fan of patriotic music to listen to all or part of this CD and not be moved in some way.

After a visit to Colonial Williamsburg I thought I might like to hear a little bit more fife and drum music. Of course I wasn't sure I could handle a whole CD of it... but this CD is excellent. The selection includes many with very catchy tunes. The liner notes say the drum work had to be improvised as not much is known about the actual drumming at that time. But the result sounds great. And their rendition of the Star Spangled Banner is so good I wonder if they used some trick to do it. I didn't think a fife had enough octaves to play it. I enjoyed the entire CD.
