Editorial Reviews

First time on CD for this 1970 Funk classic. Music From The Adventurers is Quincy Jones and The Ray Brown Orchestra's re-working of the Antonio Carlos Jobim soundtrack to the trashy Howard Robbins film The Adventures. This very rare classic funk album was also recorded in 1970, and features Tom Scott and Deodato. The album swings between big band jazz, out-and-out funk and easy listening. The album includes the heavy-breathing Funk classic 'Coming And Going,' notable for the female orgasm shrieks over the top of some funky grooves.

Harold Robbins' "The Adventurers"

Back in the early 70's when the film version of Harold Robbins "The Adventurers" came out the tag line was `nothing is left out'. The film was one of those guilty pleasures--a really bad film that was fun to watch! One of the strongest attributes was the music composed by Antonio Carlos Jobim. The score for this film was filled with wonderful themes and melodies. At the time of the release there was the official soundtrack album but also there was this LP with the Ray Brown Orchestra under the direction of Quincy Jones doing jazz infested variations on themes used in the film. I was so impressed with this album's upbeat groove! A few years ago I transferred my album onto CD so I could listen to it more often. I'm so grateful to the label Varese Sarabande for having the insight for finally releasing this "lost gem" onto CD. This release is definitely 5 Star all the way! Do yourself a favor and don't hesitate to purchase yourself a copy. You'll be glad you did.

Not the same as the original, but to an open minded film enthusiast it is presented as a cleverly
done score in it's own right.Quincy Jones is no slacker in terms of his musical crafting of the main
pieces,I think it was very well done...w/the exception of the track titled "Coming and going",which
does seem to belong on the track to a 70's porn film out of the San Fernando Valley. All that aside,
most people who are real fans of "The Adventurers" will enjoy the jazzy sounds.Very Dynamic as well!
