Editorial Reviews

Wynton Marsalis brings you this self-curated collection for The Music of America series. This 2-CD set blends the diverse musical languages that personify this unique American artist and composer. The compositions are performed by a diverse group of musicians including the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orion String Quartet, musicians from the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and members of The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra in various configurations. Speaking through the voice of a bluesm an, parishioner, sophisticate, slave, griotor philosopher, Marsalis bring an eye of a musical historian as he takes us through a musical journey of some of his most outstanding works. This collection truly personifies Marsalis as the formidable trumpet player, the world-class composer and an extraordinary contributor to The Music of America.

I have attended Wynton Marsalis concerts where he presented jazz standards and new compositions that strayed from tradition and enjoyed the experience, This album is a survey of compositions that illustrate Marsalis' broad range and includes the best of his talent and interesting compositions.

Wynton Marsalis was performing in my community and I wanted to hear him in this recording. He is the king of the trumpet. Really have enjoyed listening to his interpretions and his virtuosity.

I bought this CD for my husband's birthday. We had really enjoyed Marsalis when he played classical music so I thought my husband would enjoy MarsLis playing jazz. I am not fond of jazz so I selected a musician I knew. What a major disappointment! It sounds horrible. And my jazz-loving husband thinks it sounds like trash.
