The best collection you can buy!!,
By
This review is from: Music of the Andes (Audio CD)
This is an outstanding selection of songs from some of the best artists of this genre. The songs by Inti-illimani are excellent, with their characteristically unique, yet traditional, arrangements. The other artists were new to me, but give a broad range of musical styles, all very professionally performed and recorded. All of the music has a very traditional base and sound (not like some of the cheesy recordings you find in the mall). The liner notes provide and informative history of each of the groups.
If you are looking for a good starter album of South American music, this is it. Absolutely no complaints with this purchase!!

Authentic Pre-Colombian Wind Instrumentals,

This review is from: Music of the Andes (Audio CD)
This type of music is so unique and beautiful that it makes a great addition to any CD music collection in my opinion. Pre-Colombian wind instruments aren't normally incorporated into other music, except for rare instances. Even when they are, they are usually Americanized by being made more upbeat than the genuine article.
This CD includes many beautiful songs including Flight of the Condor. But unlike the versions most of us grew up with, this authentic music is far more haunting and less upbeat. That makes it a bit more complex but no less beautiful.

By
This review is from: Music of the Andes (Audio CD)

The rythms and underlying beat develop in a sophisticated way, and the enthusiasm of the artists is very apparent! Constant variations give real depth to the music and artistry.

Vibrant, colorful and expressive...,

I have been into "World Music" since I began my music while I was in my teens. Since then, I have gravitated towards the mysterious sounds of China and the Andes Mountains. This anthology is a great collection of music from the Andes region; it is very vibrant, colorful and expressive. At once, one can hear the blending of Inca and Spanish heritage.
Outstanding. |
