Great first live disc for Disturbed,
By A. Estes (Maine) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Music as a Weapon II (CD & DVD) (Audio CD)
Even though I never attended any of the 'Music As A Weapon 2003' shows, I have seen Disturbed & Chevelle live, and that is why I found this album so appealing. Disturbed's second headlining package tour featured Taproot, Chevelle and the now defunct Unloco. Together, some of the bands best tracks are present, with a few collaborations, covers and rarities. Obviously, Disturbed are prominently featured. Most of the live songs here are pulled from 2002's 'Believe' disc, but there are a few little nuggets that stand out, such as a collaboration with Pete of Chevelle and Joey of Unloco on the hit "Stupify," the previously unreleased track "Dehumanized" (the studio version remains unheard) and a surprising cover of Metallica's "Fade To Black." The band is in top form (just as when I saw them in 2001) here. Taproot, who played direct support to Disturbed on the tour, only get three songs, which is disappointing. I would have hoped for more, especially since nothing from their debut, 'Gift,' is featured, but the band does a superb job with what they are given. Chevelle are given a mere two tracks, which is shocking considering the amount of success they have had in the past two years. "Forfeit" is an amazing song live, and Disturbed frontman David Draiman helps beef up "The Red" with a guest spot. If you want more live Chevelle, they have a live CD out called "Live From The Road," which is definitely worth checking out. As far as what they have featured here, I am a little disappointed. It would have been nice to hear some songs that are a little harder to find from them (i.e. "Don't Fake This," which they didn't play live when I saw them and doesn't appear on their live album either). Finally, Unloco, the opening band makes a decent performance with "Empty" and the far superior "Bruises." Nothing much to scream over, though. The DVD covers the same area as the CD. Same performances and all, along with the music video for Disturbed's "Liberate." All in all, it's a decent buy. It's definitely somewhat lacking, but if you went to one of the shows or have seen any of the bands live, this would be a nice little package to own. Personally, I don't feel the DVD is really necessary, and I recommend sticking to just the CD version.

Disturbed, Taproot, Chevelle and Unloco. Awesome combination. Taproot is a good bad, however didn't sound the best live, but their cd sounds awesome. Unloco and Chevelle both sounded pretty good on the cd and were very easy to get into and enjoy the music, good balance between vocals and music so you can understand the lyrics. We all know Disturbed is an incredible band. Powerful vocals, great guitar riffs, very talented band. This live performance was nothing less than that. They remade Fade to Black by Metallica which was incredible. The intro to their performance was very well done. The content and song choice was excellent, powerful and intense vocals with their well known beats and guitar made this cd definately worth while. Throw in the DVD for 5.1 surround on all the songs, turn up the volume, and enjoy Music As A Weapon

The other artists (besides disturbed) I liked and ended up getting some of their CD's so if you like metal and don't know all the bands on this you may want to get it or if you just don't have the majority of these songs already.

Vocals were great, music was great and seeing songs of this particular album live is great. The only thing lacking is the lyrical ability, which is geared more towards words that sound good screamed, as opposed to words that sound good together. This 2004 album was released by Reprise label, and contains juicy explicit lyrics. This may not contain the bands legacy of The Sickness, but is defintily a must have in any Disturbed fan's collection. [...]

Disturbed, Chevelle, Taproot, and Unloco, not a very good combination, since the only awesome band is Disturbed in there. The only song I like from the other bands is 'The Red' by Chevelle. The Distrubed part was awesome, their cover for 'Fade To Black' was infallable, proving once again that they are the future of metal, shock-rocker Ozzy Osbourne was right.

Disturbed are the band of the metal world. their cover of "fade to black" is amazing, david projects his voice with tremendous power and attacks the tricky parts of all the material with ease and precision unseen in any other vocalists on this live cd/dvd combo pack. taproot sounds good, "poem" is awsome, although their singers vocals are a little weak. chevelle sounds good, especially "the red" when david joins them onstage. unloco are the dark horse of the bill, but they make their impression very well with their 2 songs, "empty" and "perfect". all round, a great combo by great bands. do yourself a favor and purchase this.

Are you Dehumanized dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Music as a Weapon II (CD & DVD) (Audio CD)
First of all, this is a pretty cool CD. The new song Dehumanized is pretty good except the recording is not that well done, and the lyrics are not the best. It is hard to understand what he is saying in Dehumanized. The guitar playing is incredibly brilliant and the singing is excellent. The best part of this CD is the remake of Fade To Black by Metallica. Distrubed is excellent in this song ,and did a very good job on this remake. The next best part of this CD is the extra DVD. This extra DVD is great. Then there is Chavelle who are a great band. The rest of the CD is.....well....it is ok. I hope that this review helped. Thanks for your time. If you are a Disturbed fan this is a must have.

well... where to start. My brother brings this contraption home and pops it in the cd player. I thought the intro instrumental was pretty cool and i was pumped for more and disturbed did deliver. However, in my opinion chevelle and taproot blowed ( )( ).<i think you know what this is. I like the song poem but cmon the guy was killing me trying to sing his songs. Sure i know he may have been out of breath or whatever but it didnt even sound good or in tune just like all the other crap. I had not been previously acquainted with unloco and i found their two songs to be quite alright, nothing spectacular. Just solid nu-metal. something that helps it from not being thrown in the trash or something given to an angry kid across the street. THank the higher spirit that disturbed is a pretty damn good band in their genre. Their live game is dished out pretty much exactly as their studio game. So enjoy that part. In conclusion. um... unless you really enjoy all four bands and are a hardcore fan of pretty much anything nu metalish.. then do not buy this cd.. you are far better off just listening to their studio albums and takin a crap in a bucket and calling it chevelle.... cuz thats pretty much what they are... give it a few years and maybe disturbed will still be known... however the rest will be working at mcdonalds flippin your bigmac. Thank you for considering my opinion PS ~RAP SUCKS BAD~ |
