1.0 out of 5 stars Ayurveda Very Lite
Anyone familiar with Ayurveda, Gandharva Veda or other Vedic music will feel insulted and annoyed by this goofy stuff. This is a collection of organ grinder tunes that could affect the doshas in some way only by chance. It is a pop, commercial exploitation that has absolutely no real foundation in Ayurveda. Nevertheless, if you like wandering, dinky tunes that have...

This review is from: Music for Ayurveda (Audio CD)
As the composer of this music, I wish to respond to the unhappy reviewer who could not accept my untraditional presentation of Ayurvedic concepts because of the sounds I chose in support of them. The ability to exercise taste and judgment based upon serious study of traditional Indian music is truly commendable and deeply appreciated; the display of an excess of negative Pitta energy that is pointedly dismissive, bordering on the caustic, is simply harmful and very misleading. This album was not composed as a mindless version of, or substitute for, the great music of India. It was written for Westerners, especially Americans, who are just becoming aware of some of the ancient rejuvenating insights of Ayurveda. As with any deep subject, there is an esoteric realm of understanding (for the select few), and an exoteric realm (for the general public). One has to begin somewhere. I chose to begin here. With time, discipline, and dedication we may all move on, I hope.

5.0 out of 5 stars More Wonderful Music by Janetta Petkus, January 31, 2000
This review is from: Music for Ayurveda (Audio CD)
I loved Petkus' first single CD, "Moving in Time", so I wondered if I would be disappointed in this second effort. Happily, I must say that this set equals "Moving in Time" in its beauty, quality, and depth. I especially enjoyed Track 1 of the Pitta CD, and the Kapha CD is perfect for unwinding. For those that spend long periods at the computer, the Vata CD is just the thing for keeping you energized and creative!

4.0 out of 5 stars easy balancing, January 16, 2001

This review is from: Music for Ayurveda (Audio CD)
I ordered Dr. Petkus' Pitta CD out of curiosity, sound unheard, and what I found was a wonderful way of using the power of vibration to help me laugh at my excess drive while not undermining it. The music is not traditional in any sense, I don't think, nor is it meant to be. Her credentials in this area are impeccable and what probably persuaded me to try the sound. I study yoga and have some other healing music which I also enjoy, but I found immediate benefit from listening to the Pitta CD. Now I look forward to balancing my other doshas as I continue to playfully seriously study yoga.
