Bearing the highfalutin name Advanced Brain Technologies, Inc. (ABT), the company issuing Cheerful Baby, one of four titles in its Music for Babies series, promises a great deal more than your average CD. This isn't just good music, mind you. It "helps infants and toddlers achieve their extraordinary, and unique, potential." It does so by introducing them to a collection of excerpts from classical music by the likes of Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart, as well as traditional melodies, played by a chamber orchestra consisting of harp, celeste, violin, viola, cello, clarinet, and flute. Cheerful Baby is "a happy collection arranged to offer your children increased joy in their world." Whether it will offer their parents increased joy is liable to be a matter of taste. Grownups who like European classical music may accept ABT's pseudo-scientific pronouncements about the virtues of having their infants exposed to it (although they may be more inclined to play CDs already in their collections instead of buying this one), but people from other cultures and traditions may question the whole idea. Still, the music is consistently pleasant, and it no doubt will make for a more congenial environment for child-rearing than some other music and sounds children are likely to hear. ~ William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide

The new Music for Babies series from ABT is something I will recommend to everyone I know!

I was so thrilled to hear well-known classical pieces, traditional folk melodies and nursery rhymes played by classically-trained musicians on "real" acoustic instruments.

The choice of instrumentation is perfect for Baby's ears, and all selections are beautifully-arranged so that you will actually like listenign to them as well.

I can't say enough about this wonderful CD series!

I love this whole series! They are beautifully done and enhance the mood simply stated as the title! I got this cd after listening to and incorporating "Sleepy Baby" and "Peaceful Baby" into our regular nap and bedtime rituals. The "Cheerful Baby" is a great addition. My now 6month old son gets really calm and at peace when he hears the music and can focus on his play development. They are traditional symphonic melodies without any of the kitchy kid neuances which makes these a must have for enjoyment and brain development! Great for anyone of any age!!!

Our occupational therapist recommended these Advanced Brain cds for our son with (mild) sensory processing disorder. We play this cd when the little man wakes up in the morning and from napping, and it has made all of the difference. He is happier, and doesn't lose his temper, or melt down quite as easily. I am talking about extremely regular and consistent playing, but it really seems to be working. I don't know how or why it is making him a happier kid, I just know that he is.
