Editorial Reviews

Review

Setting everything off with a Conan like soundtrack, Parker Street Cinema gets all funky on our ass with a seminal post-rock riff-a-thon that explodes in a fiery fireball of fusion! Passionate and catchy rock riffs stand up and get all emotional on our ass with abandoned fervor and post-rock abandon ala Explosions in the Sky. But there s a funkiness that s deviant Mr. Bungle in the works all along the fierce Music, In the Blood that deviates from one song to the next. Nice! --Smother.net

Product Description

If Parker Street Cinema's self-titled EP was their infancy, Music, in the Blood chronicles a band amidst a heroic rise to adulthood. Wielding little more than piano, bass and drums (along with the occasional sample), the kinetic, vocal-less trio craft the kind of dynamic narratives Gershwin would have written if handed a distortion pedal or three. Ultimately, Music, in the Blood articulates, emotes and inspires a host of feelings both intimate and triumphant. This is the fabric of electric anthems.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hear this band now!, December 4, 2007
By Stephen Crosley (Venice, CA United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Parker Street Cinema shows just how much rockin' can be had in a piano, bass, and drums trio. Full of rich, layered sounds, oozing orchestral suaveness, Music, in the Blood is a supremely enjoyable album showcasing the band's continuing maturity. I'm not a musician myself, but I love intelligent and moving jazz, rock, and indie pop. Parker Street Cinema's unique style satisfies all my musical cravings. I love the highs and lows throughout each song that take you for a ride as they tell their story. Collectively, their music works together flawlessly, but it's easy to hear the individual talent of each musician. There's no mistaking that music is in the blood of this band.

5.0 out of 5 stars Conan like, indeed., December 4, 2007
By Polly "veggywood.com" (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
Bay Area-based trio's first full length outing is even more enigmatic and surprising than their first effort, 2005's self-titled EP. Without pesky lyrics to get in the way, one can truly appreciate the sonic landscape of Parker Street Cinema and the concept of an instrumental album in general. Part rock opera, part noise rock, MUSIC, IN THE BLOOD switches it up so often that's impossible to be a passive listener. This is not some album that you throw on as background music or play behind a DJ as he rattles off the morning's play list. You can put Parker Street Cinema on at your next party, but don't be surprised if it shows up as a guest, beer in hand, of course. It is hard to imagine that a musical narrative constructed solely out of a bass, a drum set and a piano can take someone on such an adventure. But just buy it... You'll see.
