That's because, according to Tom Wolfe, who wrote the introduction to this hypnotizing volume, Mark Seliger prepared painstakingly for each shoot; in one case "he disappeared into the New York Public Library for three days." Seliger, who shot more than 130 covers for Rolling Stone and now contributes to GQ and Vanity Fair, seems at home in black-and-white, but it's his color shots that arrest the eye. The most striking may be the one of rocker Perry Farrell striding across the El Mirage Dry Lake Bed in California, on what looks at first like a blue-green railway but turns out to be scores of fluorescent lights laid out like a bending train track.

The book is compilation of amazing, rare pictures of best music artists of our time. I saw this book at a very upscale restaurant in Miami beach while I was waiting and could not put it down . I purchased it as a gift to my husband and he loved it.

I first saw Seliger's pix in Rolling Stone mag a gazillion years ago, and always liked his unique vision, and the way he seemed to get a playful, but always controlled, side from those standing in front of his camera. This book has not too many pictures (the only flaw. For the price it could have been a little fatter) but specially the black and white images are simply beautiful. I specially like those of Chuck Berry, Metallica (which for me, is THE picture that captures their stance at the time), and George Harrison. The size, binding and gloss of its pages makes it a highly recomendable coffee table book, but if you are looking for a definitive collection for the work of the artist, just like me, you'll have to wait longer.
