5.0 out of 5 stars Not A Fan Of The Show?, May 16, 2004
This review is from: Music From the O.C. Mix 1 (Audio CD)
This is such a great compilation. Even if you are not a fan of the show, it's hard not to like the music from it. Seriously, the show is great, but I didn't watch every episode... but yet, the songs all mean something special. If you are a fan of one of the bands on this album I highly recomend getting this cd because the other bands and artists are just as good. Here is a basic review of each song:

1) Paint The Silence 9/10 - Great Song To start the album with and a beautiful musical composition.

2) Just A Ride 8/10 - Cool song. Her voice goes great with the beat of the song.

3) Honey And The Moon 10/10 - Awesome song with really really good vocals and a great sound.

4) The Way We Get By 10/10 - This is actually one of the main reasons I bought this cd, it's a really cool and catchy song. Spoon is a really great band.

5) Move On 8/10 - Great Jet Song to put on the soundtrack.

6) How Good Can It Be 8/10 - Cool and Catchy song, sometimes it can be skipped though.

7) Caught By The River 10/10 - Beautiful song by The Doves with really good lyrics and an awesome sound.

8) Rain City 10/10 - This is one of my favorite songs on the cd. It's slow, but it's so good.

9) We Used To Be Friends 10/10 - This song is great and it really conveys the thoughts of being annoyed with old girlfriends.

10) Dice 15/10 - This is such a great song and probably my favorite song on the cd. The lyrics and different sound make it a terrific song.

11) Orange Sky 9/10 - Great Mellow song, the lyrics make the song.

12) California 10/10 - Probably why most people will buy this cd.. You can't help but like this song, it's great. Check out Phantom Planet's "The Guest" - it's an awesome cd.

- Another reason to get this cd is it's cool to see the clips from the show when the songs were used by putting it in your computer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Mix Can't Wait For More!, April 20, 2004
By
This review is from: Music From the O.C. Mix 1 (Audio CD)
Everyone loves the OC, so in order to keep up its super pop culture icon status, they decided to release a series of soundtracks right? Well if you were to watch the OC and buy the soundtrack, you will be pleasantly surprised. ANd if you were to listen to the soundtrack and then watch the OC you will be absolutely delighted!

A really neat feature on this disc is the fact that when you pop it into your computer it will link you to a special site that has clips of where each song was used. While some of the scenes are a bit more obscure (Seth and Ryan at the lobster tank) others are defining moments of the show, like the fantastic inclusion of "Paint the Silence" by South which played during Marissa and Ryan's first kiss. Other priceless soundtrack moments include when Ryan's mother left to "Move On" by Jen, and a number of slower tunes devoted to events where Ryan leaves, from the sweet acoustics of "Honey and the Moon" when he is going back to Chino, to the amazing yet simple "Orange Sky" ballad by Alexi Murdoch.

While Jem's "Just A Ride" doesn't have an included video clip it was played on a recent episode in Summer's room in a scene with Seth and Summer, and stands on its own as a catchy indie pop track. Some of the other upbeat tracks include Spoon's "The Way We Get By", "How Good Can It Be" by The 88 and "We Used To Be Friends" by the Dandy Warhols, but all of these are still at their own unique tempo that they can't distincly be considered a particular style.

A number of other songs are really melodic and beautiful, including "Caught by the River" and the enigmatic "Rain City" with a really unique lead vocalist. A personal fave of mine on the album is Finley Quayes excellent track "Dice" with the help of William Orbit mixmaster. You might recall this songp laying when Marissa and Ryan just make a midnight kiss on new years in the last few seconds.

The album is perhaps best ended by the incredibly infectious and catchy "California" theme song by pop-punk group Phantom Planet known for their laid-back approach to music. It sums up the album as a whole; well mixed, very catchy and melodic, reminsicent of the scenery they are being played in, and most importantly, inspires memories of the OC from start to finish.

5.0 out of 5 stars Every song is great... excellent mix, January 2, 2005

This review is from: Music From the O.C. Mix 1 (Audio CD)
Okay, I'm a fan of the show, but after previewing the songs I didn't think I'd be interested. Someone got this for me as a gift, though, and after I listened to the full CD a couple of times, it's permanently in my CD changer in my car. Also good enough that when "The O.C. Mix 2" came out, it was a priority for me to go buy it.

I think Josh Schwartz, the creator and producer of the series, picked the music. Evidently, he has very eclectic taste--there's a wide range of musical styles represented, but man, this whole album just flows... it's mostly mid-to-downtempo stuff. Totally feels like something you'd want to listen to driving up Hwy. 1 or walking on the beach at sunset.

Some highlights for me are "Dice" by Finley Quaye and William Orbit, Joseph Arthur "Honey and the Moon," and Jem's "Just a Ride." Don't be surprised if you end up buying some full albums from some of these artists after you listen to this--and you will... again, and again, and again...
