Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

It's impossible to listen to Music From the O.C. Mix 2 without wondering what the 16 acts represented think of being associated with the show. These, after all, are largely the kind of too-cool-for-school indie bands--Nada Surf, Death Cab for Cutie, Eels, Interpol--you'd normally expect to run screaming from anything so heavily soaked in mainstream reek. Credit the show's exceptional music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas, then, with rounding them up and wrangling them into contributing, and also for choosing her selections carefully. More than a collection that would slip effortlessly into any hipster's car CD player for its left of the dial leanings, 2 showcases many of these emerging bands' best songs yet: The Thrills' "Big Sur" is a sun-soaked slice of pop heaven, "Maybe I'm Amazed" makes elegant use of a cover to capture the dreaminess of the darkly talented Jem, and "You Got Me All Wrong," by Dios Malos, is maybe the most ravishing rainy day rock song ever written. As with the first O.C. mix, 2 is enhanced with scenes from the show. Pop it into your computer and hum along as the drama unfolds; if anyone catches you, tell them it's the coolness of the music you're captivated by. -Tammy La Gorce

Product Description

The OC, the phenomenally successful Fox Television series has pioneered the creative use of storytelling through song and, in the process, become a showcase for some of the most innovative and original artists in music. Music From The OC Mix 2 follows the inaugural release of Mix 1 which debuted earlier this year to critical and popular acclaim. The compilation features music from the second half of the first and early episodes of the second season and boasts three exclusive tracks: Jem's cover of Paul McCartney's "Maybe I'm Amazed" and Nada Surf's cover of OMD's "If You Leave," both recorded specifically for the series, plus The Walkman's live version of "Little House of Savages." Mix 2 highlights the program's trend-setting approach to music with songs from an extraordinary variety of new and emerging artists including Interpol, The Killers, Death Cab For Cutie and more.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent end to the 1st season, and start of the 2nd!, November 21, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Music From the O.C. Mix 2 (Audio CD)
I bought Mix 2 hoping for more of what I had loved from Mix 2. However, initially I was a little disappointed. It's a bit slower, and more mellow than the first mix- in my opinion anyway. However, I listened to it over the next week and it has definately grown on me!

Jem's gorgeous cover of Paul McCartney's "Maybe I'm Amazed" and Nada Surf's cover of OMD's "If You Leave" were both recorded for the O.C- and I'm glad they did. (can't you just see poor old sad Seth when Anna leaves...)

Standout tracks are Interpol's "Specialist", Death Cab For Cutie's "A Lack Of Color", The Thrills' "Big Sur" The Walkmen's "Little House of Savages" (which was recorded live) and the Eel's "Saturday Morning" which kicks off the whole album.

Note: The Australian version has Evermore's "It's Too Late". Good track. Also, the lyrics in the case fold out to a nifty little poster- it's all very good. Althought, I was suprised at no Rooney, which would have been nice.

5.0 out of 5 stars not possible, January 24, 2005
This review is from: Music From the O.C. Mix 2 (Audio CD)
I don't want to review this cd, simply because I don't want it being bought. It's always great when your "secret" bands make money so they can make more albums you'll love, but when many many people are listening to them i'ts not the same. Despite all that I am putting my feelings aside and giving this album 5 stars. When my sister told me to check it out I was doubtful. When I saw the track listing I could have sworn it was one of my mixes. I couldn't believe a teen drama put Super Furry Animals on thier cd, a great interesting band. I've seen Interpol in concert and still adore them. Evey band and or artist on this mix is worth mentioning. Nada Surf, The Walkman, Eels, The Album Leaf, and of course Death Cab for Cutie are some of my very favorite bands. I am so proud of this T.V. show for exposing so many people music that is beautiful. I think I'll start watching the O.C. now, I hear a character has a Ben Folds poster in his room. Are we sure this is a T.V. Show?

4.0 out of 5 stars It represents what the oc is about, October 27, 2004
This review is from: Music From the O.C. Mix 2 (Audio CD)
Hi!
I really like this album. All the songs in the album make a special blend , and they really represent what the oc is about.
I love the 80's song If you leave my OMD and i love the cover of the song, by the band Nada Surf, its really really great. They only song that it's missing, is the wonderwall cover from the st. valentines episode, but besides that it a great album. It has a really cool mix of modern, retro vibe. =) If you are a fan of the show , its a mUst!! =P
