Book Description

For all those teachers who find themselves without a permanent classroom, moving instruments and books and manipulatives and countless other items from room to room on a cart, fear not! "Music à la Cart," written by seven Atlanta-area à la cart teachers, will help you tailor your cart teaching to incorporate the most wonderful aspects of music classroom instruction. In addition to offering options for cart choices, it presents strategies for everything from streamlining the loading and unloading process to adapting Orff and Kodály techniques for a cart to incorporating technology into your lesson plans. With reproducible checklists and classroom diagrams and numerous fully realized lesson plans, "Music à la Cart" has everything a teacher new to a cart could want and plenty to help inspire the veterans to think outside the cart.

This review is from: Music a la Cart: Tips and Techniques to Take Your General Music Classroom on the Road (Paperback)
Although this book does have a few good suggestions about adapting lesson plans for teaching on a cart, anyone who has been teaching for even a year knows the information in this book.

I'm getting put on a cart for teaching music next year in my K-4 building, and I bought this book thinking it would be packed full of golden nuggets of knowledge, but in the few days I spent thinking about how I would do my job, I had come up with all the ideas in the book and then some.

Some of the information is outdated - I went to companies listed to look for the carts recommended and couldn't find them on several companies.

If you've been made to teach on a cart for any length of time, there really isn't anything new here that you probably haven't figured out for yourself. If you are just out of college and face with a cart then I would recommend this book for you.

This would be a good book for a new teacher. It provides basic things you need to consider as you travel room to room teaching music. A more seasoned professional already knows the information in this book. It provides only one list of some items that should be included on the cart. All of those items are things you can think of on your own.
