From "Live Wire" to "You're All I Need",

I can't believe so many people are complaining about this set. If you don't like the idea of the first four CDs in a set because you already own all of it for the most part, DON'T BUY IT! They give you the track list on here people, you know what you're buying...most of you reviewers probably don't even own it anyway! Now that that's out of the way, let me say that this is an awesome box set. I didn't own any of these prior to getting the box set and this made it much more convienient for me. Not only is this cheaper than buying the four CDs seperatly, but you also get a very nice booklet which discusses the history of the band along with many full-color photos, bonus tracks, and most importantly the original version of Too Fast For Love. Though Theatre of Pain and Girls Girls Girls may not be Motley's best CDs, they're still worth owning in my opinion. I will agree with one negative aspect of the set, the title was not a good idea but certaintly not a reason to prevent you from purchasing this. Bottom line is that if you already own these, either keep the CDs or sell em and GET THIS! If you don't own 'em and you like Motley...what are you waiting for? I'm looking forward to the next volumes of the set.

Great, but......,

Being a Motley-head since the leathur album, this is a great collection. Let me get the few complaints out of the way. The original Leathur mixes are from a pristine record. Not from the masters. Which I found odd because "Stick To Your Guns" & the "Too Fast for Love" (bonus alternate intro version) from the Crucial Crue remasters are from the masters. "TFFL" bonus alternate intro version IS the leathur mix, So on this set you get the same version twice. One from Vinyl and the master tape. A bit odd and redundent. So you have to keep the Crucial Crue "TFFL" to get the master tape version of Stick To Your Guns". You can hear slight suface noice on the Leathur mixes and a few "pops" but hell, If you are a crue nut like me, you aren't gonna find a copy sounding this good for the price PLUS it's on CD!My other complaint is there is no album artwork or lyrics so I need to keep the "Crucial Crue" CD's, again redundent. It's great to get the Japanese extra tracks that eventually came out in the US on the Hip-O re-reissues of the crucial Crue series.Especially the GREAT demo of " Too Young To Fall In Love", it is kickin'! I still have the "Beyond" Crucial Series, so this is cool. As far as most box sets go, they include lots of previously unreleased material which this set doesn't (except the Leathur album) I doubt I will be buying the next 3 sets that are planned for the one bonus track that was added on the Japan reissues. Nikki, add some unreleased gems and you have my $$! I would LOVE to have the single versions of "Stick To Your Guns" since it is so different (hint). To me, the set is worth it JUST to get the far superior Leathur version of "TFFL". The wait is over Motley heads! you too can own these great gems, it's worth the bucks! Take me to the top!

A RIP OFF!!!!!!!!,
This review is from: Music To Crash Your Car To, Volume 1 (Audio CD)
Mötley Crüe has been my favourite band since 1983's Shout At The Devil but recently every aged over the hill rocker turns into a Gene Simmons wannabe! So is Mr. Sixx, while Vince is lost in Limbo, Mars is trying to get his illness under controll and Lee is kissing every NU Rocker and rapper's a@@, he closed deals with record labels to re-issue the Cruecial Crue Remastered CD's now with the Japanese bonustracks as an extra and some additional linear notes. release a GREAT DVD, release a box set in the UK with a double CD compilation and a PART of this previously mentioned DVD and now release PART 1 of a 16 disc boxset. Part 1 of 4 discs so the fans, he loves so much, don't have to pay for 16 discs at once in these financially recession filled dayz. He forgets to tell all of us that this so called box set for the fans is actually a repackaging of the again previously mentioned remastered with small addition of only the original Leathur Version of Too Fast For Love. So this is far from what we expected and OK a boxset with only NEW material is propably a thing only Bruce springsteen could have done but MOTLEY who's SO BIG and to whom the fans mean everything just repackage the remasters for the 3rd time! It's a SHAME!!! The longtime fans already owned the remasters maybe even twice for the Japanese bonustracks but selling them again as a boxset and making fans buy them again to get the highly sought aftre ORIGINAL mix of TFFL is tasteless. I keep my final judgement when all 4 sets are out but set 2 will obviously contain Feelgood, Motley Crue, Relics and Generation Swine, Set 3 the double Live Album, New tattoo and!?!? And hey, would set 4 be rarities and stuff or maybe a compilation of the previous 3 boxsets or maybe Vince's solo albums or GOD HELP ME Tommy's solo efforts?!?! Think twice before you buy!!!

Long sought after LP becomes ploy,
By A Customer
This review is from: Music To Crash Your Car To, Volume 1 (Audio CD)
The box itself is a nice package... a nice faux aligator leather box (or should that be leathur?). Let's face it, this box set stands as a vehicle to sell the long sought after original first album (The Original Leathur Records release of Too Fast For Love which has the original mixes of songs that were later re-recorded for the Electra Records album of the same name), until now only available on a limited number of vinyl LPs and cassette tapes. This "Leathur" album is and has been the holy grail of Motley Crue fans for years. I myself have had a homemade blank cassette tape copy made from recording a vinyl LP (complete with all the crackles, hisses, and pops) a friend had years ago. Most serious fans have sought out and obtained such a pour quality recording since before the invention of the compact disc. The idea of the original album being released in all the glory that is CD has been the stuff of Motley Crue legend since CD's took hold of the market. Having said all that, it is with great displeasure that I write this review. The CD quality of this box set's disc 1 (which is the whole of that most dear-to-our-hearts album) is to be commended in and of itself. It is everything I could have hoped for it to be. However, packaged with this gem is nothing more than previously released CDs. Only true fans would care to own the original Leathur mixed CD, and they probably already have these other albums included in the package. Thus, the release of the first album to CD has become a ploy to make the fans buy more than they need to. I've never been a fan of MP3 piracy, but when record companies resort to these tactics, I can begin to see why someone would try file sharing? So it is with bittersweet regret that I review this box set. The Leathur mixed CD is awesome! The package deal you must buy to get it legally is a shame. If you do not already own the "other" CDs this set includes, then by all means take a dive into a great collection such as this box set affords.

Complete, but...,
This review is from: Music To Crash Your Car To, Volume 1 (Audio CD)
This collection is very complete, it includes every version of every song that was made for the first 4 motley albums. Alltough the music is very complete a few things are missing. First of all they didn't included the lyrics from any of the songs, the package is very nice, but to my taste a little small (it's the size of a VHS) I tought it was a little bigger. The book that comes inside is very nice, has tons of pictures, but they should have added the lyric's!!!!. Second of all no artwork from any of the albums, this collection basically consists of a book, and the four cd's, but none of them comes with it's booklet, which I tought it would come, so that's my complain: No artwork from each cd, and no lyrics. Besides that, I do believe is kind of expensive for what you end up getting, alltough the package is nice and the collection is complete, I feel that they could sell it for a little less, maybe Mr. Sixx could think about that for the die hard crue fans!!, but in general this is a good collection for any hard core fan if you don't have the albums already.

Same Old Situation, Same Old CD's,
By A Customer
This review is from: Music To Crash Your Car To, Volume 1 (Audio CD)
I am a Crue fan and have been since 1986. I own all the albums and even have Too Fast For Love (Leathur). As you would imagine I've been looking forward to this CD for some time. How disapointed am I? It's just full of stuff that I already have. Where are all the rare tracks we were promised Mr Sixx? This is a rip off. If you don't own the Crue CD's then buy this. If you do then don't!! ..and also not the best title for a Crue release given what happened to Razzle of Hanoi Rocks!!!

Motley at their best,
This review is from: Music To Crash Your Car To, Volume 1 (Audio CD)
I used to own all the Motley Crue albums on cassette and vinyl, and bought this compilation as a way to update all of their music to cd. Not only does this set include the songs from their first 4 (and best, in my opinion) albums, but it also includes demos of their earlier recordings, digitally remixed versions of their songs, and other songs not released on the original albums. It sounds fantastic and you couldn't ask for more. All in all, this is a GREAT compilation of their songs from the 1980's. If you're a Crue fan then this is a great buy!

Great collection but fans have most of it,
By
This review is from: Music To Crash Your Car To, Volume 1 (Audio CD)
This an amazing collection of great timeless, rock. If you have already gotten the remastered albums, than this purchase is questionable. The packaging is fancy, the booklet has many pictures from 81-87, with essay from The dirt author, and Kerrang writer. That sum up all the events in that era. This is must buy for a new crue fan, or if you have not got the remastered albums this is a better alternative than buying the albums seperatley. The only redeeming factor for crue fans that have all the remastered albums, is the inclusion on this set of The leathur records version of "too fast for love" with a remixed original version of the whole album. I liked some of these versions better than the the TFFL CD.

But I think the title is pretty much in bad taste considering the Vince Neil incident that killed Hanoi Rocks drummer Razzle.

Amazing!,

The Crue is one of my favorite bands of all time. Not only does this set include all of the material from their first four albums (Too fast for love, Shout at the devil, Theatre of Pain, and Girls Girls Girls), it also contains the demo's and unreleased versions of a lot of the songs. The biggest drawing point in my opinion is the inclusion of the well-sought after "Leathur" version of Too Fast for Love. The album was originally released under Motley's own record label, Leathur. When Elektra signed them, they made them re-record and re-release the album. In the re-release, you dont get the "rawness" of the original. The packaging is also awesome. It comes in a very well made leather-looking package with a thicker than usual book and the four cd's are well protected in a fold out book. If you already have the first four albums, you may shy away. On the other hand, where else can you get the official release of the original recording of the entire 'Too Fast For Love' album? In the newer re-releases, Motley has added some of these demo's, but not all of them. I give it 5 stars for the music, packaging, and overall value. |
