2.0 out of 5 stars Euro House destroys great themes, February 24, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Music from Dario Argento's Horror Movies [Import] (Audio CD)
Well, you may buy this wishing to hear those slightly loopy themes from Argento's films but what you will get is some very bad "updating". Does the theme to profondo rosso need a very bad rap over the top of it, does a Euro House beat best serve to relive the soundtrack to these nightmares??? You would imagine that Claudio Simonetti would be able to answer these questions before inflicting these aberrations on the public, but then you haven't seen the poodle style haircut he is sporting within the liner notes. Clearly Claudio has received some bad advice in his life. However, the live version of Profondo Rosso is ok and Suspiria is not too spoiled by some rather camp whispering about witches. Tenebre is changed slightly but apart from a prog rock guitar break is still wonderfully sleazy. There needs to be a good compilation of Argento themes in their original form, especially Morricone's work on Phantom, but this is the sound of a musician trying to keep up with times that were dreadful times anyway. Still your pets might like the pictures...
