5.0 out of 5 stars Welcome back Checkfield!, February 28, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Music from Everglades National Park (Audio CD)
S. John Archer and Ron Satterfield have been away much too long! Getting a snippet or two of their music on each of the "Day Parts" CDs from American Gramaphone over the last decade was not nearly enough. "Music from Everglades National Park" represents a triumphant return! I have listened to this CD several times and savored every note each time. Tying Checkfield's music to the Everglades was a perfect match. Let's hope the wait for their next full-length CD isn't nearly as long.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Checkfield tradition continues..., October 2, 2000

Having enjoyed the four American Gramophone CDs that Checkfield did (1986 - 1989), I have long wondered why they've been dropped from the A.G. catalog. Thus I was pleasantly surprised to find this album at Amazon and promtly ordered it.

Checkfield listeners - they're alive and well. This album continues the series seamlessly. The dynamic and refreshing rhythms, melodies, and orchestrations are back as well as you've hoped. My thanks to the folks at Gallery Records and Checkfield for bringing this disk out for us all to enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars checkfields rule, March 3, 2003

I never thought Checkfields was going to release another cd. Boy am i glad i was wrong. I have four of their cd's including this one. Each one was my favorite before the next one is released. Ron & John i believed are very gifted and brilliant writers and musician. I just hope they continue to collaborate forever. Music from the everglades in my opinion is quite good but not as good as "the view from the edge". It's probably just me but i'm not too fond of the nature sound. Overall the cd is great. I enjoyed listening to it and i highly recommend it.

This review is from: Music from Everglades National Park (Audio CD)
I was believing that good music was a matter of the past, all that kind of sounds that made me dream while I was awake now all are back with this record, I think this is a real masterpiece, a contemporary one, and a great musical work, for the easy listener and also for the real audiophile, Thanks again Checkfield, provide us with more of this, please...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Jazz/New Age Fusion!, February 14, 2011

I must admit I'm new to the artists, but certainly not to the genre. For years I've been watching a program on EWTN called "The Journey Home", and they use the track "River of Grass" as their intro/outro theme. I've always felt that track had a smooth, almost Pat Metheny vibe to it, especially with the vocals layered on top of the melody.

I downloaded the whole CD and gave it a thorough listen, and have enjoyed the other tracks as well. Standouts are "Amigos", which has an unmistakable Cuban/Latin flavor, and "Long Key Schooner", which has such a seafaring character that you can almost imagine the salty sea spray and wind at your face! They do an excellent job at evoking those hot, lazy days in the Keys and Everglades! Love it enough where I might have to start collecting their other works as well. Great standout effort, and well worth adding to your collection!

5.0 out of 5 stars Music from Everglades Nat'l Park by Checkfield, May 27, 2009
This review is from: Music from Everglades National Park (Audio CD)
Beautiful and appropriate theme(?) music by a very talented group. The music can put you off into another world. Great CD received in excellent (new) condition.

Prior to the purchase I was (and still am) drawn to the piece named "River of Grass", the second track.
