5.0 out of 5 stars Fiddler On The Roof January 17, 2010
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I just love anything by Fiddler On The Roof, the DVD movie, great, the soundtracks great. I think I have every rendition of Fiddler On The Roof one could have......including the Ferrante & Teicher L.P. version. I fist saw the play in about 1966, and from then on, I hum, or sing along with the music.....

I like the original soundtrack, plus every good fiddler (violin) song I can get.....;)

This version is very good....

4.0 out of 5 stars Fairly Faithful to the the songs of the Film October 7, 2010
Format:Audio CD
Although this soundtrack is not by the singers on the film of Fiddler On The Roof, the songs are still good & are admirably performed. It is only a tribute album, which are normally horrendous. However, thanks to the vocal talents of its performers (including the late Anthony Newley as Tevye), the album sounds just as good as the soundtracks that have been produced.

This album contains all the hallmark songs, including 'Tradition' and 'Do you Love me?' And the little bits and pieces of dialogue in the songs reminded me strongly of the plot of the film. Somehow it is very convincing in its ethos & comes over as a well rendered effort.

Of course, there are downsides, the most obvious being that that it doesn't correlate with the movie or the musical, which can come over odd at times. Furthermore, there is no Haym Topol (who normally plays Tevye), and Anthony Newly does not quite fill his shoes (though it is an admirable effort...)

So, if you are after the real Mccoy, then buy the soundtrack. However, if you are after something different, or just something cheaper, then this version is a worthy pastiche and is a satisfactory effort.

2.0 out of 5 stars Sad recording July 9, 2008
By tignor
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
The saddest part of this recording is that Fruma-Sarah is completely cut out of Tevye's Dream. Why? Add to that that the songs Tradition, Matchmaker and Sunrise, Sunset are nearly cut in half. Anthony Newley's vibratto nearly kills you in Anatevka and he warbles through half of Sunrise, Sunset. There is hardly anything to jump for joy about as far as the singing goes. The orchestration is nice, though, the music jumps out at you, but why cut half the songs and one major character out (and make the song, therefore, not make any sense at all?)
