5.0 out of 5 stars "Essential Film Music of Marlon Brando --- Silva Screen Records", May 2, 2006
This review is from: Music From the Films of Marlon Brando (2 CD SET) (Audio CD)
Silva Screen celebrates the career of one of the most popular actors in cinema history, with this anthology of the music that hits the mark everytime for all the fans of Marlon Brando --- These indelible musical impressions appear courtesy of the most renowned film scores composers of our time --- Many hard-to-find scores appear on this release one can only take note of the composers that give his film life through music --- let's list the composers who gave each cue life --- Gato Barbieri, John Barry, Leonard Bernstein, Hugo Friedhofer, Bronislau Kaper, Alex North, Nino Rota, Miklos Rozsa, Leith Stevens, Dimitri Tiomkin, Richard Wagner, Franz Waxman and John Williams --- outstanding line up for those who have reached great heights in the World of Films and Fantasy.

Many have appeared on their own soundtrack albums with the Original Score, making this collections very collectible indeed --- Released in several categories from Action, Adventure, Drama and Sci-Fi sharing moments from powerful classic filming to a lighter side with some of the most familiar and recognizable themes ever written.

BIOS:
Marlon Brando
Birth Date: 4/03/1924 - Omaha, Nebraska
Died: 7/01/2004 - Los Angeles, California

Special footnotes on Marlon Brando the actor and person --- after "A Streetcar Named Desire" for which he received the first of his eight Academy Award nominations, Brando appeared in a string of Academy Award-nominated performances--in "Viva Zapata"! (1952), "Julius Caesar" (1953) and the summit of his early career, Kazan's "On the Waterfront" (1954). For his "Waterfront" portrayal of meat-headed longshoreman Terry Malloy, the washed-up pug who "coulda been a contender," Brando won his first Oscar --- his outstanding performance as the rebel-without-a-cause Johnny in "The Wild One" (1953) --- then came young director Francis Ford Coppola who believed there was only one actor who could play his films godfather, with an already tight cast of actors he had assembled for his film, "The Godfather" of method acting himself--Marlon Brando --- Coppola won the fight for Brando --- Marlon Brando won his second Oscar, and Paramount came up with the then top-grossing film of all-time, "The Godfather" (1972), a gangster movie most critics now judge one of the greatest American films of all time --- Brando helped out a lot of minorities in America, including African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanic Americans and Native American Indians --- one of the innovators of the Method acting technique in American film --- "We are all Brando's children," Jack Nicholson pointed out in 1972. "He gave us our freedom." He was truly "The Godfather" of American acting--and he was just 30 years old.

Absolutely unforgettable scores from "THE MEN" (1950), composer Dimitri Tiomkin --- "A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE" (1951), composer Alex North --- "VIVA ZAPATA" (1952), composer Alex North --- "JULIUS CAESAR" (1953), composer Alex North --- "THE WILD ONE" (1953), composer Keith Stevens --- "ON THE WATERFRONT" (1954), composer Leonard Bernstein --- "SAYONARA" (1957), composer Franz Waxman --- "THE YOUNG LIONS" (1958), composer Hugo Friedhofer --- "ONE-EYED JACKS" (1961), composer Hugo Friedhofer --- "MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY" (1962), composer Bronislau Kaper ---"THE CHASE" (1966), composer John Barry --- "THE GODFATHER" (1972), composer Nino Rota --- "THE LAST TANGO IN PARIS" (1972), composer Gato Barbieri --- "THE MISSOURI BREAKS" (1976), composer John Williams --- "SUPERMAN" (1978), composer John Williams --- "APOCALYPSE NOW" (1979), composer Richard Wagner --- many have sold millions in Soundtracks, but here in this collection they all appear compliments of conductors Fitzpatrick, Bateman, Raine with The City of Prague Philharmonic featuring the Crouch End Festival Chorus --- with all the gusto of the original theatrical scores that graced the big screen.

Outstanding album sequencing by James Fitzpatrick (producer), Reynold da Silva (executive producer) and David stoner (release co-ordinator) --- brought to new heights by The City Of Prague Philharmonic---conducting this world renown Philharmonic is James Fitzpatrick, Paul Bateman and Nic Raine --- and must make mention of the label who leads the pack in releasing brilliant compilations from unforgettable films featuring the likes of --- Marlon Brandon (1924-2004) --- The Man and the Legend.

MP3 downloaders beware -- the tracks are jumbled up, some are repeated, others not there. Amazon should correct this to avoid misleading buyers. The rating is low because of this.
