You know how when you are in a museum, and you see bowl of fruit and you just sort of walk by it because it's boring compared to everything else? Yea, that how I feel about this soundtrack if it had been purely 20s music. I think that's what the OTHER Gatsby movie is for.

People - HELLO!!! This was an appropriate and proportionate interpretation of music in this movie!! It fit the storyline to a perfect T! I couldn't have been happier with it, and I haven't stopped listening to it since it's release. And considering the director and his other films, anyone expecting a liner soundtrack is seriously responsible for their own disappointment. See the other movie if you want a Jazz age soundtrack. If you want a compelling arrangement that will carry the storyline beyond the screen, this is the one for you. I only wish they would include the instrumental versions of the songs, but maybe in a few weeks it'll come out.

This is a great soundtrack, but make sure you compare the track listings from this version and the Deluxe version. The Deluxe, while about $3 more, contains 6 more tracks, including "Imagine Me and You" by the xx and the Florence + the Machine songs. In my haste, I did not read the track listings or search for an additional version, so if you're looking for those songs, you may be disappointed with this version.

First of all, to those who complain about the fact that this soundtrack isn't "in tune" with the '20s: It's not supposed to be. Check the iTunes description of it; it specifically says it's supposed to be modern, with a kind of '20s throwback feel.

All of the songs on this soundtrack are haunting and beautiful. Personally, I'm obsessed with Beyonce's and Andre 3000's rendition of "Back to Black" and Lana del Rey's "Young and Beautiful." This soundtrack's been on replay since I got it.

Great songs with good beats and strong vocals. I can't stop listening to this album.

Best to buy the whole album because of how many songs are included.

The music on this album is very unique. It makes you want to get up and dance. It's great to just listen to too! I absolutely love it. Some tracks are jazzy, some are more pop-like and some have a combination of both. This is a must have album!

Was I the only one in the theater freaking out about this movie's soundtrack ? From the beginning to the last track this album ROCKS my socks off! From Jay Z & Beyonce' to Jack White and Flo and the machine. What a mix, how creative and the sound is WOWZA. I have a saying about us old (white) people listening to Hip Hop. Hip Hop makes the old feel young and hip hop makes the young feel COOL! As iit should. I love this ablum so much I want to write Mr. & Mrs. Carter and tell them I love them (fan mail - imagine that- I am 56 years old!!!)

this captured the mood of the novel better then the movie ,the young and in some cases little known artist, such as coco, lana del ray emile sonde and the xx bought much to the table. also the jazz vibe was authentic and strong, in time, when the artist on this sound track , gain the fame they deserve this sound track will be a classic

This soundtrack is really great, and a lot of the songs fit perfectly with the Great Gatsby as a whole... i.e. there are no songs that make you go "wtf? what does this have to do with Gatsby at all?!"
I'll just start with the tracks that I didn't like, which pretty much only amounts to two: "Bang Bang" by Will.i.am and "Love is Blindness" by Jack White. Will's song just is disappointing... and not because it's modern hiphop/pop, which appears somewhat on the rest of this album, but because it lacks any artistry behind it and just falls flat for me. And Jack White's cover of U2, while highly praised, was just not for me personally. It was a little bit too scream-y at points and just wasn't my musical taste. However, it may be exactly to your liking.
Now... songs which made this soundtrack exceptional... Florence + The Machine's "Over the Love" is absolutely amazing, and it is perhaps the song which draws the most upon The Great Gatsby itself for inspiration and just seems to fit the whole movie and book really well. It was awkwardly placed in the movie, but the track if fantastic. "Into the Past" is absolutely beautiful. It just floats in the air, and it feels very light and beautiful. Great track overall. And finally.... Lana Del Rey's "Young and Beautiful." I am a personal fan of Lana, and this track measures up perfectly with the rest of her songs. It is dark. It is cinematic. It is beautiful. This soundtrack is practically worth buying just for this track.
some other notable tracks include Beyonce's cover of Amy Winehouse, as well as Emeli Sande's cover of Beyonce's "Crazy in Love", which has really great arranging and is just an amazing reimagining of the classic track. Overall, great soundtrack, though it does fall flat on some tracks.
