A collection of German folk song standards,
By Church History Nut (Las Vegas, NV USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Music of Germany (Audio CD)
This CD includes several well-known German language folk song..Rosamunde is practically a cliche in the Volksmusik genre. But this isas good a rendition as you'll hear anywhere. Heidi and Schonemaid aremore folk-pop vocals; fun songs but not classics. The Snow Waltz is abeautiful instrumental classic that will get your toe tapping inthree-quarter time. The four vocal medleys are all folk songstandards sung by a youthful group of mixed voices, definitely not achoir. For those interested in developing an ear for the Germanlanguage, these songs will be good practice. The final two cuts areboth hiking songs with a brisk beat and bright, cheerfulmelodies. Those looking for serious genuine Volkmusik may bedisappointed. The vocals are sung in high German not dialect. Thereis no yodeling no shoe slapping, no zither or hammered dulcimeraccompaniment. It does include good accordion, oom-pah brass andsprited carefree vocals. All in all, this CD is a good introductionto the Volkmusik genre.
