5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning Multi-Instrumental Album from Master Flautist
This is a splendid CD, and many regard it as Nicholas Gunn's finest collection of original compositions.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Curate's Egg
I'm looking for music to accompany my photographs of Grand Canyon and this CD looked ideal. It had very good reviews on Amazon.com. It's quite different from a lot of the CDs you pick up in the National Parks which tend to be of the "music to send you to sleep" type with overpowering bird song and running water that sounds like Niagara. Here there is some running water...

This is a splendid CD, and many regard it as Nicholas Gunn's finest collection of original compositions.

From the opening notes of the captivating "Moonlight on Havasu Creek," one quickly realises this is going to be a special listening experience. It is a highly complex piece, but has great melodic appeal and perfectly captures the entire spirit of The Grand Canyon. Flute dominates, but is blended with a large assortment of accompanying instruments.

Tracks two and three are also highly impressive, and have that rare quality of making you whistle them for days on end. "Flight Over North Rim" is dramatic in its entirety, not least when the helicopter soars over the canyon.

More highlights are in abundance. I never tire of this CD. Additional information about The Grand Canyon is included within the CD insert, and 10% from the sale of this album goes directly to the Grand Canyon Association to assist in their efforts to preserve the park.

I cannot recommend this CD highly enough. It is beautiful, dramatic, inspiring, uplifting and highly melodic. Appreciate the skills of this English-born musician.... and enjoy.

4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT MUSIC...BUT WHY THE TALKING???, April 12, 2005

I love this CD and play it for dinner parties and in the morning to relax, etc.

However, one of the tracks has extended talking and factual data on the Grand Canyon (some of which is inaccurate by the way), interspersed w/the music. It is a jarring distraction and absolutely not necessary. If there was a way to delete a song from a CD, I'd be all over it.

Less talking, more music, please!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't get enough of that Nicholas!, June 15, 2002

I so love this CD that I have played it so many times I wore it out and had to buy a second replacement CD. I simply cannot get enough of it! Nicholas Gunn is an artist of incredible talent, who's music is stunningly beautiful in my opinion. All three of his albums are of a very high recording quality of course, but Grand Canyon is my personal favorite. If you want to be relaxed, energized, riveted, soothed, moved, touched to tears, amazed, and wrapped in the unique kind of musical embroidery that only pure musicians can weave all in the space of one CD, put on this Grand Canyon CD and prepare to take the journey. This album is going to be in my collection forever. One question though: Nicholas, when are you going to do a CD inspired by the sacred places of the mountains? Either way, I cannot wait for the next Nicholas Gunn journey.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hauntingly beautiful!, January 13, 2000

I, too, give this beautiful music 5 stars. I listen to it over and over and find it so touching and relaxing. Seldom do I find an album where I enjoy every track, but this one has a winner on each one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Explores the majesty of the Grand Canyon through music, September 25, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Music of the Grand Canyon (Audio CD)
An all-inspiring, electronic, yet natural and well refined expression of the grandeur of a natural monument through beautifully arranged and blended music and sounds. Listen, close your eyes, and this CD really does gives you the feelings of the Grand Canyon. Each song projects a powerful theme about the different parts of and the history of the Grand Canyon. The third song "Flight Over The North Rim" is an exciting musical portrayal of a scenic and up-lifting helicopter trip over the north Rim. The eighth song "Four Worlds" blends the music of different cultures as they met in history to discover and explore the awesome Grand Canyon. So much feeling, with strength and awe, woven together as never before - a true trip to the Grandness of the Grand Canyon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love All Three Copies I Have!, December 3, 2004

This review is from: The Music of the Grand Canyon (Audio CD)
This CD is one of my personal favorites. I've had it for years, but everytime we move, it gets packed, and I temporarily lose it. Rather than waiting for it to be found, because it's such wonderful music that I can't wait that long, I usually end up purchasing another. So, now, I have three copies. This is a beautiful, peaceful, comtemplative music compilation. Nicholas Gunn is one of the best contemporary, "New Age," flutists, and he is literally able to paint an image of surreal and natural beauty, as he is performing. This is a fabulous relaxation CD, as well as a great CD to play in the background at home or at work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than anything Vangelis could come up with, March 21, 2004

I listen to Gunn's music when I run, to get me to sleep, and even just to listen to them. Gunn combines the flute with well-composed keyboard rythms to create a unique, enjoyable music. He has made other albums I like such as "Great Smoky Mountains, and "Journey to Yellowstone" but I think his Grand Canyon album is his best work.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful experience . . ., February 1, 2006

This review is from: The Music of the Grand Canyon (Audio CD)
I recently purchased "The Music of the Grand Canyon" by Nicholas Gunn after hearing the piece "Twilight" which was played on a local station. I stopped what I was doing and turned up the sound. Immediately I was taken to another place and time, which I did not want to ever end. I wrote the name down and purchased the CD right away, on-line. I have since come to enjoy this entire album incredibly, and play it often bringing peace, joy, beauty and well being to my spirit. I plan on listening to Mr. Gunn's other albums and hope to acquire more of his music in order to bring these beautiful sounds into my home.

5.0 out of 5 stars Driving to Tucson, March 26, 2000
This review is from: The Music of the Grand Canyon (Audio CD)
We bought this CD while staying at the El Torvar lodge on the rim of the canyon. We played it continuously while driving around the Canyon area and all the way back to Tucson. The music fits well the wide open space of Arizona and now fills our home back in Kentucky with the same spirit. We never tire of this one, and I just ordered two more Nicholas Gunn CDs.
