This CD is obviously designed to cash in on the popularity of DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES but it's a pretty big gyp (1) Note the title of the CD is does not actually mention the show (2) the women pictured on the cover are not the stars of the show (3) the songs by "name" artists all appear not to be their original classic recordings but remake versions from the last decade or so (pop star Joan Osborne is apparently thrown into the mix to keep it from being totally country) (4) the album is heavy with soundalike (and not so soundalike) covers of country hits by female vocalists. This is the sort of knockoff stuff that 30 years ago sold for a buck or two on budget labels!!!

These are great country songs for the most part (and it is rather appropiate that a collection of songs "inspired" by the show be country, despite the show's "hipness" and California flavor, the housewives' dramas are straight out of country queen sagas stretching from the top of today's charts to all the way back to Kitty Wells a half century ago, and some of the real-life dramas of many of the country divas on this very package could be plot twists for the show) but if you are interested in the songs why not buy by them by the original artists or in their original versions. Nashville knew all about desperate housewives years before the show's creator Marc Cherry was even born!!!
