5.0 out of 5 stars I'm not a fan of contemporary Christian music, but... October 3, 2011
Format:MP3 Music
I have a long standing aversion to what passes for current Christian music. This is mainly due to the apparent obsession with only making records that sound like popular secular bands from 10 years ago.

This record is not that. This is masterful songwriting and brilliant delivery. From the arrangements, to the lyrics, to the choice of artist, Music Inspired by the Story is just that. Inspired. I have recommended it to everyone, much to the shock of my friends.

Simply put, this is really good music. It gives me hope that maybe those making Christian records are beginning to come into their own and just write what moves them instead of what they think might sell.

There is still creativity in the faith. This record proves it.

I heard this great song, "I'm With You", a powerful duet performed by Amy Grant and Nichole Nordeman. I needed to find out more. I discovered to my delight that this song is inspired by the story of Naomi and Ruth. Then, I found out this song comes from an entire CD about Bible stories from headliner Christian Contemporary artists! I have the CD and digital copy and gave a CD to my sister for her birthday!

5.0 out of 5 stars If I were stranded on a desert island... October 14, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This is the most amazing music! The great bible stories written in first party songs and sung by top artists. Powerful and touching; encouraging and challenging. If I were stranded on a desert island and could only have one CD, this would be it. If the angels in heaven are learning new songs, this might be them! I know you will be blessed.

I got a tip from one of the artists thru twitter and downloaded to my iPod just moments after Music Inspired by The Story hit iTunes. I am a lyrics person and I was immediately amazed by the songs Nichole Nordeman wrote. They are so insightful and heart reaching. It is like she discovered treasure buried for centuries and the gold shines even brighter now. On top of that, the artists selections are inspired. each artist pours his/her heart out in these songs. I mailed the cd to my daughter and am taking 6 people to The Story Tour this December.

5.0 out of 5 stars Music Inspired by The Story September 27, 2011
Format:Audio CD
I've been a major devotee of God's Word and Christian music for the past sixteen years, starting with the debut album by Jars of Clay, Jesus Freak by DC Talk and Take Me To Your Leader by Newsboys. I credit the biblical messages behind my favorite songs in Christian music for leading me to seek Jesus and I accepted Him as my personal Savior in 1999. In 1998, a new artist emerged on the Christian music scene who completely captivated me with her stellar debut, and her songs "To Know You," "River God" and "Why" won me over to Nichole Nordeman's infectious vocals and vulnerable and penetrating songs. For the past five years as a Christian music reviewer, I've fallen deeper in love with my Savior by studying His Word in conjunction with my favorite songs in Christian music including writing weekly `behind the song' devotionals. I couldn't ask for a more perfect combination of my loves to intertwine than to have a two disc compilation featuring twenty-four artists and eighteen songs inspired directly from The Bible called Music Inspired by The Story. All of the artists I've mentioned appear on the album, Dan Haseltine from Jars of Clay, Michael Tait originally from DC Talk and Peter Furler from Newsboys along with a welcome return from my favorite female vocalist, Nichole Nordeman, who incredibly wrote the lyrics to all eighteen songs. What's especially remarkable is how she's captured the essence of these biblical characters by writing songs in the first person, starting from Matthew West (Adam) and Leigh Nash (Eve) singing "Good" from the pages of Genesis through Michael W. Smith and Darlene Zschech reprising God's Story in "The Great Day" right from the pages of Revelation as they sing about The Second Coming. Read more ›

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and thought-provoking! January 25, 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I heard of this album when I was on the website of one of my favorite Christian artists, Francesca Battistelli. I purchased it recently on Amazon, and I must say, I LOVE this cd! It shines a new light on all the characters from the bible stories many of us grew up with.
The Old Testament
-1: I Am (Creation) Overture 9/10- I love epic soundtracks, and reading the quote from Genesis while listening to this music is awesome. I think it would've been better to put in a beat that sounded like a heartbeat myself, but it's still a great adaption of the mood for the beginning.
-2: Good (Adam and Eve) Matthew West and Leigh Nash 9/10- This is a very wistful sounding song, performed well by Matthew West and Leigh Nash, showing how Adam and Eve were sorry for what they'd done against God, and yet He still loved them.
-3: Who But You (Abraham and Sarah) Mark Hall and Megan Garrett 10/10- A moving song about trusting in God. Great melody and awesome vocals.
-4: Bend (Joseph) Brandon Heath 8/10- Pretty good. Interesting music and meditation.
-5: It Must Be You (Moses) Bart Millard 9/10- Nice song about Moses' struggles leading his people out of Israel.
-6: Bring Us Home (Joshua) Michael Tait, Blanca Callahan and Lecrae 10/10- A little unconventional, but well executed nonetheless. Mixes a Jewish kind of sound with pop.
-7: I'm With You (Ruth and Naomi) Nichole Nordeman and Amy Grant 10/10- Very beautiful song about Ruth and Naomi's dedication to each other in love of family.
-8: Your Heart (David) Chris Tomlin 8/10- Not my favorite track, but the line that made it worth listening to me was "Who would ever dream a king would come from Bethlehem?"
-9: No Compromise (Daniel) Peter Furler 10/10- Great lyrics and a catchy rock riff.
