"piano jazz from the finest",
This review is from: Music of Jerome Kern: Jazz Piano Essentials (Audio CD)
Dick Hyman plays - "THE FOLKS WHO LIVE ON THE HILL" the newest series from Concord Records - "JAZZ PIANO ESSENTIALS". This time the folks from Concord salute Jerome Kern, the brilliant composer who gave us such great hits shows - "Sweet Adeline" (1935) - "Show Boat" (1936) & (1951) - "Swing Time" (1936) - "You Were Never Lovelier" (1942) - "Cover Girl" (1944) - "Lovely To Look At" (1952).Each selection is spotlighted by some of the most talented pianist ever to sit down at a keyboard - Gerry Wiggins "ALL THE THINGS YOU ARE" - Walter Norris "THE SONG IS YOU" - Cedar Walton "I'M OLD FASHIONED" - Dick Hyman & Ralph Sutton "OL' MAN RIVER" - Marian McPartland "A FINE ROMANCE" - Ted Rosenthal "LONG AGO AND FAR AWAY" - Andy LaVerne "YESTERDAYS" - Jessica Williams "WHY DO I LOVE YOU"? - Richie Beirach "ALL TE THINGS YOU ARE(REPRISE). Every artist a different and distinctive style, and "pure jazz" for the essential listener. Total Time: 52:08 on 10 Tracks/ Concord Records - CCD 4912 2 (2000)

"Too many notes" is what Emperor Carl Josef said to Mozart. I remembered that here because is in these improvisational treatments of beloved familiar tunes, I cannot distinguish the original melodies.
