5.0 out of 5 stars John Barrowman Soars
I bought "Music, Music, Music" because I so enjoyed JB's earlier CDs. Like "Swings Cole Porter," "Reflections from Broadway," and "Another Side" I wasn't disappointed in John's latest album of passionate renderings. He brings new life to tunes I loved years ago such as "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me" as well as songs I am appreciating for the first time like "From a...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Voice But Could Use Better Musicality...
First, I'm a huge Barrowman fan! Saw him in COMPANY in DC and fell in love with his stage presence and theatrical voice. And this is where I start to have a slight problem with the CD. When he's interpreting show tunes and songs of yesteryear, Barrowman possesses a strong voice that's often melodic and rich. When he's singing contemporary tunes made famous by others, you...

5.0 out of 5 stars John Barrowman Soars, December 31, 2008
This review is from: Music Music Music (Audio CD)
I bought "Music, Music, Music" because I so enjoyed JB's earlier CDs. Like "Swings Cole Porter," "Reflections from Broadway," and "Another Side" I wasn't disappointed in John's latest album of passionate renderings. He brings new life to tunes I loved years ago such as "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me" as well as songs I am appreciating for the first time like "From a Distance." John Barrowman brings such personal feeling to his music that old songs sound fresh. In "I Know Him So Well" from "Chess" John creates a lovely new version of this ballad as he sings "isn't it madness he can't be mine." I enjoy the pop songs thoroughly but I think the show tunes give his voice the best opportunity to soar. "I Am What I Am" has me singing along every time. Bravo.

BTW - Cheaper to order from Amazon UK like I did. That makes it extremely worth it. Very enjoyable CD esp for JB & Torchwood fans. Single "What About Us?" is amazing and what I want to hear more from JB. Also "I Know Him So Well" and "You'll Think of Me" I listen to over and over.

John Barrowman is a very versatile man. He sings, acts, dances and writes. This cd shows that he can do original songs such as 'What About Us' as well as covers. Definitely would recommend this cd to any John Barrowman fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Standing Ovation Required, March 24, 2009
This review is from: Music Music Music (Audio CD)
John Barrowman takes us on a journey to showcase all of his favorite types of music-pop, country and broadway! And what could become a musical mess is simply a masterpiece. John Barrowman sings all with ease.
"What About Us" is seductive and sexy; "Can't Take My Eye Off You" is a dance along/sing along spectacular and his duet with Daniel Boys on "I Know Him So Well" is simply priceless.
A standing ovation is required after each listening!

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable CD, December 31, 2008
This review is from: Music Music Music (Audio CD)
A very enjoyable CD. Good interpretations of some classics. I didn't think he would be able to compete with Billy Joel for "Uptown Girl", but his style is different enough and he succeeds. The duet parts are particularly good. Overall very enjoyable --- not in the same class as his Cole Porter CD, but few CDs are. PS: Yes, it costs less on Amazon UK.

5.0 out of 5 stars Barrowman is hot!, May 24, 2011

First found out about JB when I watched the BBC version of Torchwood, then he was on Desperate Housewives, and my interest peaked! I heard he was a Star in West End Musicals, and put his name into You Tube and I heard his version of the Joni Mitchel hit "Both Sides Now" and I just had to buy the CD. He sings very well, and I think that this album will be more attractive to Gay Men of a Certain age, but the Teeny-Boppers have their say in too much of what is considered popular! All artists' deserve their Audience, and this Scottish man that was raised in the USA deserves his.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Voice But Could Use Better Musicality..., January 25, 2011
This review is from: Music Music Music (Audio CD)
First, I'm a huge Barrowman fan! Saw him in COMPANY in DC and fell in love with his stage presence and theatrical voice. And this is where I start to have a slight problem with the CD. When he's interpreting show tunes and songs of yesteryear, Barrowman possesses a strong voice that's often melodic and rich. When he's singing contemporary tunes made famous by others, you cannot help but feel he pales in comparison to the original. Case in point, no one can sing "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You" and NOT think about Frankie V.--it's impossible. Same for "Uptown Girl" where Billy Joel's funky swagger is what keeps the song alive in your head long after it's gone from your ears. Barrowman sings fine, but he lacks an edge or a hook and--most important--a band that also brings a unqiue luster to his songs. His voice is meant for the live stage and he's a performer more than a singer--when he sings in front of an audience, you see him in his element as evidenced by his DVD. And when he does Broadway, his voice does command more attention. To be fair, "What About Love" is my favorite song on the CD--it's a great POP song and it's the first time I've heard it so Barrowman's able to create a distinct impression here that he doesn't do on other rock or folk standards ("Both Sides Now" is NOT a song I would welcome hearing ever again...). So while Barrowman is a joy to watch act on TORCHWOOD or see in a show or concert, I just cannot say he's an artist I would leave on heavy rotation in my Ipod or CD player. I do love him and think he's a great artist and one of the handsomest men on the planet; I am just not as enthralled with the recordings and hope that he sticks to what he does best-being LIVE!

John Barrowman has a beautiful voice. My favorite song is Uptown Girl. I listen to this cd all the time and it never gets old. I only wish he was as big a superstar in the U.S. as he is in the UK!

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique take on some great songs...wonderful, June 1, 2009
This review is from: Music Music Music (Audio CD)
I love John Barrowman from Torchwood, but when I heard he had an album out I had to find it. I did and I'm so glad that I have it. It has a wonderful collection of mostly covers, but John interprets them how they were meant to be sung. It is definitely a new favorite.

This album is just wonderful. Barrowman does an excellent job of blending classic and new, modern styles of song. Definitely a pleasure to listen to. I was a little disappointed you couldn't purchase the album in a downloadable format, at least here in the US, but you do what you have to do ;)
